something i don't understand

please don't think i'm stupid for not knowing this

i've been reading the forums lately and here are some things that i don't understand:

what does "OOS" mean and stand for? does it have to do with being out of state?

on this one post, this one dude was describing people's chances of getting in by saying "reach" or "far reach"? what does that mean?

thanks

OOS= Out of State. Because Michigan is a public university it accepts more in-state residents than out of state residents. Also out of state residents have higher stats because of the competition between other out of state students. Michigan has an instate body of 63% and an out of state body of 37%. It is harder for an out of state student to gain admission that is why the forums differentiate the two.

Reach/Far Reach just simply means that a person has a low chance of getting in. Usually the terms are Safety, Match/Target, Reach. Far reach means that you are less likely to get in. Target means that you fit the criteria, but the college or university can go either way, and safety means that you are more likely to be accepted.

Don’t worry, no one who hasn’t spend absurd amounts of time here knows what those mean.

OOS does mean out of state, for here it would be anyone outside of Michigan.

Reach means unlikely to get in (as opposed to Match which means good chances and Safety which means almost guaranteed). Far reach is a nicer way of saying no shot of getting in.

Anyone know what “DS” stands for?

-Thanks

In the context of CC, “ds” is dear son. It’s part of the lingo parents use to refer to their family members, “ds,” “dd,” “dh,” “dw,” and so on.

Elsewhere, dunno. Dual Screen?

LOL, I find that really funny for some reason…(DS, dear son, LOL)
