something i just realized

For all you EA applicants....

I was looking at the admissions statistics for last couple years and I saw that out of the 3000 or so people who applied early, 383 were accepted and another 240 (something like that) were accepted during RD out of the 2240 that were deferred in the EA process. THis shows that out of the 2623 (based on the numbers I gave) people who werent rejected in the beginning, 623 were accepted eventually. This comes out to approimately 23.75 percent. So just think, if we follow the same trends (as this trend has been pretty steady in the last 5+ years), then approximately a quarter of the EA applicants will be accepted. Now doesnt that seem to give you a little hope? It gave me some =)......

Too bad we don't know how many will be applying RD. If the EA numbers are any indicator... the number of applicants will go up and the acceptance rate will go down =(

applicant numbers wont increase by more than 200-300 and the acceptances will def not decrease by more than 50-100. that makes it a difference of about 3 percent (since there are about 10,000 applicants each year). So at the worst, 20% of the EAs will be accepted. That is still good!

The EA numbers already increased by 300. That means the RD numbers will have to increase by more than 300. ;)

they increased by 300 in the past 4 YEARS. the whole number of applicants will probably increase by approx. 400 since last year since thats how it was the year before

oh cmon....be hopeful! dont bring that pessimism out here =). we still have a good shot.....worst case scenario it'll be about 17% acceptance rate from EA. thats still better than 12.3% you keep on seeing isnt it? of course....if you think 17 < 12.3, i would wonder why you would be applying here =P

crap.....wrong info.....but dont worry. be happy!!! you WILL get in.....even though i dont know you lol

i agree with citrusman. everyone who applies to MIT gets in, duh.

yeah. see, I got in.

I'm going to sue you for libel if I don't get in!
