i don't know if i should be mad or not but...

there's this obnoxious kid in my grade. he thinks he is really good and tries to dumb people down so he feels better about himself. he's applying to huge schools, like stanford, caltech, duke, and mit. after he heard i was applying to penn, he decides on applying to wharton.

but after he found out i got in, he's thinking of applying to a different school in penn (i think engineering) because he wants to get in and then transfer to wharton.

:(

what makes me annoyed is that he really has no clue about what penn really is about. the only thing he is really aware of is the name "wharton." of course, wharton is a GREAT school, but he has done NO research at all about the school. the only thing running through his mind is, "wharton wharton wharton." he asked me yesterday, "do you apply to different schools?" if he wanted to go to penn that much, he didn't even have to ask. he only cares about getting into the school because of name, not because he truly loves it.

sorry, but this has really been bothering me. i've never known anyone with so much pride, to the extent that it is disgusting.

usually those p[l dont show passion in there essays and in interviews. i hate that too, one of my freinds got accepted EDa and doesnt even wanna go that bad. which really makes me mad!

but it just annoys me how this kid wants to go to wharton but applies to the college or engineering school and thinks it's easier so that he can transfer. exactly like what tenebrousfire said, the "backdoor."

just punch him in the face...that'll settle things.

But seriously, don't worry about it. I have kids like that too in my school and the only way i dont go insane is to just think about how they wont get in and if they do theyll be miserable because they didn't really want to go there in the first place.

He's only hurting himself by picking a school for the wrong reasons. Either he gets here and is miserable because he doesn't know anything about the school or he gets smoked because he isn't ready for the workload.

Either way, don't worry about it. See you in CAS next year.

i hope he does... he's been like this for all of high school. i hope his pride kicks him in the face.

oh yeah. so he use to be secretary of the math team during sophomore year. but he just went for the title and never came to the meetings. the captains took the position away from him and gave it to me. now i am math team captain. he's still putting secretary on his apps. HE LOST THE TITLE BECAUSE OF HIS OWN STUPIDITY AND HE STILL PUTS IT ON COLLEGE APPS!? ridiculous.

AND AND. there was this spanish speaking forum that spanish students went to. they hand out awards like "superior" "excellent" and "good." there are no 1st places and so on. One year he gets Excellent and the next Superior. He puts "1st Place Speaking Contest" on an app, which is TOTALLY different.

he is evil.

sorry that i'm ranting and venting my anger against this fool on cc.

it's okay - being secretary of a math team (as opposed to some other organization) isn't exactly what one would usually call a significant activity.

hahah i think there are people like this in every school.
honestly, someone like this at my school just ticks me off. i hate people who claim "titles" and never take the responsibility.

i dunno, but i feel a need to be realistic. there IS a chance that he will get accepted, be happy, and fulfill his goals... you never know with people like this... sure, its great to have a romantic view on things and say that at some point along the way, karma will get him, and if you truly believe this, then great, at least your happy, but in the real world, sometimes, unfortunately, crime DOES pay...

i'm not saying that this will be the case, and i do truly hope that karma does somehow get him, but, i mean, relying on karma doesnt always work. if you tell him directly, "you suck as a person," then i think hell get the message, but if u rely on his own evil to do him in, you may just be in for a rude awakening...

but what i am getting to overall is not the hope that karma will get him back. although this person is extremely annoying, i'm just irritated about how there are people in the world who apply to a school just for the merit of saying that he/she is going to this-or-that, unaware of the true beauty of the school, as well as trying to find a "shortcut."
