Did they say just 9th grade girls or boys too?

odonos,
Where did you hear?

Princess'Dad - I emailed the admissions counselor last week who was my daughter's "contact". she responded that andover over-admitted 9th grade girls and was not looking at the wait list now and didn't think andover would in the "foreseeable future". nothing was mentioned about boys.

I would just like to revive this thread, because I am curious if anyone knows if there are indeed 2 types of waiting list letters this year, or if that was just a…“myth” of some sort. Any thoughts?

Reposting my response from March 2010:

It has been brought to our attention that there is some confusion about the number of students who have been waitlisted at Andover. I see from this discussion that some students have been told that there are only 25 students on Andover’s wait list. I want to clarify that our wait list is divided by applicant pool: residential status (boarding and day), gender, and grade. Therefore, we may have 25 students who have confirmed their places on a particular waiting list, e.g. 9th grade day student girls. However, the number of students on each wait list may vary by grade, gender, and residency.

As you can see, the numbers can vary and are in a constant state of flux as some students will take their names off our wait list as they accept offers of admission from other schools.

I have logged in to this discussion board this one time only to provide this clarification. If you have any other questions about Andover’s wait list, please feel free to call our office at (978) 749-4050.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Vivien Mallick
Senior Associate Dean of Admission

Hi everyone,
I had opened my Phillips Andover letter minutes ago. I had suspicions I had been rejected because I have been from Phillips Exeter. Ironicly, I was waitlisted. I did not recieve the “25 student priority” waitlist letter(I think i got in with the skin of my teeth I am a male eigth grader living in up-state NY (near Buffalo)and am applying for ninth. I was just curious in anyone could disclose the number of students in my waitlist pool. If not, do you have any comments on waitlisting in general?
Thanks

Hoping for the best,

The Adcom just logged on to request students and parents contact them directly so she can end the endless (and inaccurate) speculation about WL size on the CC boards. And then you post your question asking the same question.

How hard do you think it’s going to be for Andover to match your profile above with your profile on their waiting list? And you’ve just told them you’ve been rejected by Exeter. Not a good way to sell yourself as a potential candidate, kiddo. I’ve been trying to tell students to think harder before posting easily identifiable information on threads where Adcoms have been lurking. Post at your own risk.

Right. I’ve been stupid.

Not to worry. She said this was a one time thing and she’s not looking here anymore. Be wise, my friend. Call them and tell them you’re interested in staying on the list and they’d be your first choice if you are chosen. Ask if there are additional things you can send for your file.
