Since the beginning of the school year (and maybe even during the summer), I have been getting mail and emails from JHU asking me to apply and saying that they want me there etc. I am applying because I think it's an awesome school which would be a really good fit for me.

Here's where it gets confusing: JHU is a definite reach for me. Are these emails etc. that they've been sending out to me automated, or do they really want me there? I would be thrilled to get in and to go to JHU, but I am more than skeptical about whether or not I am truly interesting to them. Especially if all this mail is based on my SAT scores, because they're horrible (at least the Math score is).

If anyone knows anything about this, and the validity of the emails and the mail, I'd appreciate some help. Thanks!

My 1320 was pretty bad for Hopkins. I got in though. Hopkins, however, is known for accepting their admits based on their character. SAT scores matter very little.

Not much to add to this thread, except to say that I found my favorite CC member name of all time...

CLASSIC!

And you are receiving the messages because you are in the Hopkins prospect database. The marketing at colleges and universities very rarely relates directly to chances for admission. All schools want as many applicants as possible so they can find the "right fits" amongst a great pool of students.

And with your CC member name -- you must apply.

Dare I say that I have found a fellow 24 fan on the boards? Awesome...! And I'm glad you like it. You're the first person to know to what it refers; I've actually had people call me Jack Bauer on here!

Thanks for the words of encouragement, all of you!

Oh, and a "bad" SAT score is 560 in Math for me. Not like the 720 that makes people on here stressed. If it were just at 600, I wouldn't be as worried.

jack bauer - i totally understand what you mean, that's why I had to clarify. haha lots of kids stress out about 720's, but to each his/her own i guess..

anyway, back to the story at hand. i understand waht you mean, it's quite a pang to get emails and letters and booklets from colleges but then get deferred/rejected! it's crazy. but you should definitely give it a shot.. some of my sat II scores are low for the hopkins standard as well - i'm relying on my character to get me in, if anything.

so beef up your essays, if you end up applying! hope this helps.

I say u should apply....there are people at hopkins with sats under 1000!! yeah believe it!!...Hopkins is big on character...and they get a sense of that from your essay..(that 10 dollar one)...as well as reccommendations...Good luck
