Which will greatly decrease my chances of being admitted into a Uni in the US.

Being a male Asian international applicant from the UK :(. Seriously how much would this effect my application ceteris paribus? Considering that international applicants from the UK are over-represented, I am Chinese, and that I am male makes me think getting into any Uni in the US is impossible.

The thing is, I read that you don't have to specify your race/ethnicity (can someone elaborate the difference? In the UK they're pretty much synonyms), so would it be possible to list myself as British or "Other" without them knowing I am Chinese?

As for the matter on the surname, would you recommend changing it? In the UK its very easy to change your surname, so I'd be willing to do so if being Asian is a disadvantage.

Edit: I've*

If you’re not just looking at the top 20 and you don’t need aid, most colleges will not care about race.

Though I will need aid, and I am looking at colleges in the top 20.

International students are all considered raceless, I think. Because stating your race matters as long as it helps colleges maintain some sort of majority:minority ratio among their US students, but internationals aren’t members of any ethnic group in the US by virtue of not being American.

Correct me if I’m wrong, of course.

Many schools do not provide aid to internationals at all. You will need to do some research to find any that do and then see where you stack up. You will very likely need to look outside (far outside) of the top 20.

@Zooser I have already decided what colleges I will be applying to and the majority of them offer aid to internationals (and most of them are in the top 25). Though back to the original topic, please.

If anyone can back what Ghostt has said, that would be great :).

Ghosst is 100% incorrect, every candidate is looked at with consideration to institutional goals.

It is the rare candidate that is Asian that can hide his race. Name, what race you checked on the SAT, school records, recs-something is usually bound to give you away.
