they're pretty regional. they're just now spreading into norther virginia, though.

There is, unfortunately, no Wawa in ithaca (though there is one on the edge of Princeton U...) However, I like the ithaca wegmans better...the candy section...omg haha.

oh yeah! bulk candy! they don't have that down here at publix.

btw, how often do you run into mennonites at Cornell?

y'all should get some food from mennonite shops.....:)

Yeh, I've been to the Wa' in Pton many a' times. Good memories. Mennonites? Are there many in New York. Coming from Ohio I cannot find my way out of a sea of them. They are the nicest people in the world though.

What's a Wawa?

jacque: ha! i can't imagine a place with any more! but it's really rural, so it's not really a sea. but on sundays you'll find 24 carriage processions that bog up the roads.

This is wawa: http://www.wawa.com/; 24 hours a day baby!

My drum instructor lived in Ithaca for 9 months and he said there's this place (a church I think) that gives out free food, I don't know if they are Mennonites though.

there's a lot of churches that give out free food. you mean like meals or canned food?

Not sure, all my drum instructor told me is that I might have to "wrestle an anarchist for the last bagel". However, I have no clue as to the specific food they handed out, just that it was free.

Why, why, why no Waitrose? Though I suppose it's silly to want them outside of UK.

I'm from Rochester...Wegman's are unbelivable. I've never seen another supermarket quite like them. The one in Ithaca is no exception. Anyone who is going to Cornell and has never been to wegman's is in for a real treat.

what abt WalMart? In India...weve heard of the phenomenon that is WALMART! r there any in Ithaca...also...How big is Ithaca...is Ithaca a town or a region?

Yes, Ithaca does have a WalMart, but many that live there think the devil and WalMart are synonymous words. Wegman's is obviously more expensive because WalMart pays their employees hardly anything and charges comparably.

Ithaca is a small town, with a total population of under 75,000.

then shouldn't the WalkMart be a bigger hit amng College goers...after all it is cheaper

Man Newyorkers just hate Walmart. It will Never, ever exist in the vicinity of the city. (We only have one in Long Island.)

I can't exactly speak for college students because I'm still in high school, but consider...Nothing, literally nothing, beats Wegman's, and many of the students who go to Cornell and Ithaca College can afford Wegman's. On top of that with something like 20,000 students between the two schools, there are plenty of people for both WalMart and Wegman's.

"Man Newyorkers just hate Walmart. It will Never, ever exist in the vicinity of the city. (We only have one in Long Island.)"

mind tellin me why?

Part of it is that since walmart has lower prices, small mom and pop shops and other small (overpriced) stores in the city woulnd't be able to compete with the huge chain's lower wholesale prices. And it's just not new york.

We have a walmart on Long Island? Where? lol. And because Long Islanders don't like low prices for some reason.
