Something to consider

The only college in the region not to make the Newsweek list of "Great Schools, Great Prices" was Syracuse University.

Hmm. So you thought all those complaints I had were just -complaints-? :-)

Well...Syracuse isn't exactly CHEAP. In fact it's quite expensive. I can see why it wouldn't make the list...LOL. Also I wonder how they measure academic quality. Something like Colgate or Cornell, well, obviously those places are going to be stellar in every area. People who go to Syracuse who have great grades go for Syracuse's great programs - architecture, communications, etc. I think it's clear that most of the students coming into Syracuse aren't going to have the stats of a kid going to Colgate, but there are definitely pockets of intellectualism within certain majors.

Although I wonder about what kind of merit scholarships it offers and how qualified you'd have to be...

sniffles stop poking fun at my schoooooooool

This is a question from a parent of a prospective student to current students at SU. If you don't mind sharing this somewhat personal information:

1) Approximate amount you spend per month on discretionary items apart from "billables" like R&B, tuition and fees and required books?
2) Source of your funding for these items (i.e. part-time job during the semester, summer earnings, parental allowance, school stipend)
3) What you spend your pocket money on (i.e. clothes, local transportation, snacks, et cetera).

We're trying to get a handle on what "other" expenses might be like for a college student at SU. Thanks!

1)

Takeout/restaurant food: $35-40/month
Alcohol: $40/month
"<wink>Other</wink>": $150
Clothing: averaging out my school-year purchases (generally online), $20 / month
Class Supplies: $10/month
Cleaning or personal supplies: $10/month
Dry/Canned foods and soda: $30/month

2) Child support money, a part-time job, and further work on a per-diem basis where available, when I need the money

3) See above.

lol. when i read child support i thought YOU were the one payin child support. i was like damn!
