Something to remember, not everyone tells the truth

When you are hearing about acceptances, etc, remember, that not everyone is totally honest about things

We have people on this site who lie, exagerate- why I have no idea- and that makes others feel worse

So, if you go to school and you hear about some kid who got into a school you can't beleive, it may be true, it may not,who knows and who cares

As well, we know from this site, that people lie, exagerate, get help, cheat, break rules, etc, and maybe they got into a school that way

Well, just focus on yourself, take care of yourself, don't worry about others (think karma), and congratulate yourself on making it this far, going to college, and being the best, most honest, gracious person you can be.

Life isn't always fare, and the college process, well, its like going to a Casino. Or a box of chocolates.

As well, if someone got into a school you felt more qualified for, it could have been who read the app on a particular day, where in the pile, if they needed a particular something that day, and while i am not accusing anyone in particular, you never know what people put on applications, on this site we hear about people making stuff up, lying about leadership, having others write essays, all kinds of stuff

So give yourself a break, realize you have honor and class, and did things the right way, and down the road, well, you will be the better person for it

Very true. Last year one girl from my school said that she was admitted to Princeton but turned it down for a UC school. She told everyone this, including her teachers. However, on the official counselor's list of who got in to where, no one from my school was even admitted to Princeton.

So it was a lie. I guess she did it to save face, but it's no shame being rejected from such a competitive school.

True! Sometimes is pretty scary to read the stats, they make you feel inferior. My S, tired of all the nonsense, decided not to tell about his luck, and he was for a while the only blank spot in the list of college acceptances in the Guidance office (and very proud of it). Finally, he had to tell that he indeed has been accepted in three top ten schools because everybody was very worried, especially the good teachers he had this past four years.

Too much pressure to go to a top 20 school. That is the real problem. Fit is sometimes thrown out for prestige.

It is unfortunate that some chose to be less than true, but with all that pressure on 17-18 year-olds, it's not surprising that some do so.

IB

PS--and it does happen that sometimes admissions patterns are unpredictable.
