Is this something that would be okay to do?

I am currently studying at Northwestern University, but I am looking to transfer to a school back in Michigan. After looking at many schools' transfer guidelines, I noticed that they required you to have some fairly specific credits that I don't have. Many of my courses from my freshman year were fairly artistic credits for my current major. Would it be a horrible thing to transfer home to community college for a year to take courses that could transfer and fill the requirements? There don't seem to be any equivalent classes at NU, even though we are ranked higher than pretty much anywhere in Michigan. I don't want to continue to take credits for another year that would not count toward my transfer school. At least I could take a large number of credits I know would transfer at the community college. Any help would be appreciated!

Also, what is the logistical difference between withdrawing and transferring?

It would not be a horrible thing to transfer home to a community college. People do it all the time. You could even be there in time for second semester if you leave NU soon enough.

Pick up the phone, call the CC you are thinking about, and talk with the admissions counselors there. They will have good ideas for you.

Also, What is a Dean’s letter? I am a freshmen so far in college, so I don’t have a declared major yet. There are 3 deans at my school, each one of them at their respective departments. Since I am don’t have a major yet, I cannot be in one of those schools, so how do I request a dean’s letter? thanks

I’d love to transfer and start with late start classes at my local community college immediately. If community college won’t hurt me, I think that’s the route I should take at this point for this year.
