Yes it stings a bit.
That’s crazy! Did you write an essay? You have amazing stats. Best of luck at a school where you can thrive!
Now you have me nervous about my D, @outofaz. She’s from AZ, GPA 3.6, ACT 35, major CS. She just got an email saying not to expect a decision until mid February.
We received the same email. It was unclear if our son had been deferred or if they had not yet had time to yet to review his application. He submitted before November 1 deadline.
@Corinthian I would just wait and see. Honestly maybe it has to do with his essays - he did not spend a great deal of time. His GPA maybe is a little less than I put - 3.6 uw. His test scores though are extremely high - SAT and ACT. Go figure. Thank you @atlutd.
@Corinthian we received the same email for my S. We are all VERY nervous as well. I wish he had applied in September/October. He is NY 790M 740E, major CS and we are from NY.
My daughter got the same email. Pretty lame if you ask me. Their website STILL says apply by November 1st and you’ll get your decision by Winter break. Well, where are the decisions? Or take that statement down if you can’t deliver.
Anyone know how many applicants got this email?
If they know on Nov 1 how many applications they have, and how long it takes to process that many applications, why did they wait until the day applicants were supposed to be told of the decision to pull the rug out from under our legs? They should have know by mid November they were under water and given applicants a heads up then.
From other posts here and other sites it looks like this is a yearly issue with Mines. You’d think they could figure out how to do this by now.
@outofaz I see that your son has some other disappointing results which seem out of sync with his stats. Seems like time to talk frankly to the GC. Is the weakness in essays? Or maybe in a recommendation letter?
@outofaz I agree with @Corinthian and I think there may be something negative in one of the recommendation letters or the written evaluation from the counselor. On face, your son’s results here and elsewhere don’t make sense. I’m a GC and I don’t see recommendation letters teachers write when I send them through Naviance – just that they’re complete and ready to send. Occasionally, with a tricky student a teacher will show me what they’ve written and I ask teachers that if they’re going to say something negative to tell the student to ask someone else. I am also extremely careful in what I write; I try to be fair and honest in my evaluations. Do you have some schools on the list that are straight-stat admissions that can serve as safeties?
I forgot to do this earlier, but better late then never…
