Son visiting in Oct. - what not to miss?

Title says it all I guess. He is going for a "fly in" visit and will tour, interview, go to a class, sleep in a dorm. Aside from his academic interests, he is really interested in the independent band scene and spaces/opportunities for playing music and the same for student theater. Anything I should tell him to be sure to check out? Thanks!

@2dtimearound - Since there isn’t really a calendar up yet for the school year, I would

The week of your son’s visit, I recommend taking a look at the [Oberlin events calendar](http://new.oberlin.edu/calendar/). That will give him a good idea of what sort of things could be occurring that weekend so he can plan ahead. Once your son arrives, I recommend that he both ask his host (or everyone he meets!) about what sort of things there are to do that evening/weekend and spend some quality time (read: 15-20 minutes) perusing the bulletin boards in Mudd library, Wilder (the student union) and the science center for posters for events that will be occurring that evening/weekend.

You mentioned that he will be visiting during a fly-in, so I recommend he team up with a couple other students and wander around campus together. More often than not there will be a concert at the 'Sco, a performance at the Cat in the Cream (possibly music, theater, comedy…), music at Slow Train Cafe (downtown), and a potential OMTA/OSTA performance (musical theater association and student theater associations, respectively; this is something to look out for when looking at posters) and depending on the weekend, an opera, play, or dance performance put on by the theater and dance department. There are also always recitals and performances through the conservatory as well.

Thanks - I will be passing along these suggestions!
