i know it has been a little while since songfest but i thought that emory freshmen need to tell people about this. for anyone who thinks that emory lacks school spirit, drop in at songfest and in a few seconds you will see the exact opposite is true. songfest is when all of the dorms compete against each other with lyrics that make fun of the other dorms. it sounds really lame but everyone gets into it and has a great time. longstreet won this year (imo pitty points for being torn down at the end of the year) and MCBAMA! came in second. just be open to it when you come here next year. it's so much fun and people are still talking about it now two weeks later. other freshmen need to share their experience.

Amadani, my daughter called me afterwards and was really excited -- she's in Longstreet and played a pivotal role in the win, I'm sure. ;) She noted that it was the first time in 18 years that Longstreet won, so she can proudly lay claim to having been there. I could only envision it, but I guess THAT many students in one place, all cheering up a storm must have been quite a sight! :)

BTW, somebody said that Longstreet would NOT be torn down at year's end... that it might be Trimble or Means going first.

Songfest at Emory is awesome! It takes quite a bit of effort and practice, but the reward is definitely worth it (usually)! My belief is that this year's champion, as well as 2nd and 3rd place finishers, deserve an asterisk- similar to recent baseball homerun recordholders.

I am sure that many of the current Emory students can guess at my residence. Yes, I am a proud occupant of THE Complex.

A quick Songfest history lesson: The Complex won the last two years. We are the largest freshman dorm on campus. Thus, we are also the loudest and we display the most dorm spirit. Also, this is the last year the infamous Longstreet dorm will exist (it is being torn down- new freshman from now on will have the oppurtunity to live in brand new housing).

Once again, the Complex dominated Songfest this year. Our lyrics, formations, moves, and clarity were unequalled. However, the judges, sorry for the old dorms that were being torn down, awarded the championship to Longstreet. (Judges later confirmed that the Complex should have won, but they didn't think it was right letting us win 3 times in a row)

My conclusion, Songfest is a can't miss event. Where else can you get such entertainment, dorm pride and rivalry? It will be one of the many highlights of my freshman year at Emory.

Complex > Longstreet

I concur with your points david, and also would like to mention that complex has a disportionate amount of girls due to the fact that Thomas, one part of the complex, is all female.. therefore Complex is disportionately better at singing and dancing, because females have more talents for these things, generally.

Yes. It's well known that the compettition was rigged this year.

The judges were worse than the gymnastics judges in the 2004 olympics.

Longstreet>all

complex pretty much sucked (they didn't even place), even after practicing for 2 hours a day. Songfest isn't so much about how technical your routines are or who has the best songs. it's about who has the most dorm pride (demonstrated in the lyrics and enthusiasm). Longstreet was by far the best.

Story of my life
searching for the right
Hall at Emory
Dobbs is just too small
I don't fit in at all
It feels like I'm suffering
And I know that Means is so old that it's falling down inside
I thought that I'd be happy... with the DUC at my side
Can't you see me dying...
I don't wanna live in those other halls
Don't you wanna know the reason why
Cuz everytime I walk out the door
I know i'd be goin to get more fries
I don't wanna live in those other halls
I just want a happy life
All I wanna be....is a TURMANITE

Turman 4ever

C! C! C-O-M-P-L-E-X!

Another great tradition I just learned about is Wonderful Wednesdays. Who knew you could have so much fun on a Wednesday afternoon watching people do random stuff (such as a hot dog eating contest). I think the best part was that the announcer was dressed up as a hot dog!

Complex is what it's all about! We should've won.. I heard about the rigged thing too.
For anyone interested in really seeing what Songfest is about, search on google video for "songfest".. a couple of dorms' routines are on there (including Complex's)

... I hated songfest. Me and a good portions of my friends stopped going to practices... then again a good portion of the dorm really got into it and loved it so I guess it's what you make of it.

~ Brett

Yeah. I'm in Trimble and we were paired with Means for songfest because we're too small to do it on our own. We were the pirate themed group. I thought that compared to the other groups, we really stunk. I had a lot of fun though.
