I totally understand you. Lol. I got accepted into UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Merced and have not heard from Sonoma State. Wow. I’m done waiting. I haven’t even started the school and it is already frustrating, so why go there? Bye, Sonoma State.
My daughter just received her Sonoma State acceptance today 3/17 – middling GPA and not very high SAT scores. She is deciding between Sonoma (undeclared major – perhaps interested in Early Childhood Ed or Kinesiology) and Cal Poly Pomona (hospitality management). Good luck to all in these big life decisions!
I got mine at 6:30 this morning - accepted!
still haven’t gotten mine!!! i applied November 16th so obviously the crap about processing in the order they receive applications is not true
There is no downside to calling admissions if you haven’t heard yet.
“We process applications in the order we receive them, your file is currently under review.” Total Blatant Lie! Five local students with D having best grades and ACT scores and applying earlier than all her friends by a month, And she STILL does not know. Vague email replies and no returned calls after leaving messages on voice mail. Warning to other parents: AVOID SONOMA STATE as a first choice if you don’t want to make college applications period HELL for your child and the entire family.
I applied on October 1st and still haven’t heard back. I called admissions and they said that impacted majors get processed first. Also, my To-Do List said that I needed to send in my transcript. Because my transcript was sent in January, my file was “moved to the bottom of the pile”. Maybe that’s why it’s taking so long?
I don’t believe what you said, Hannah. My major Psychology is very impacted, and I submitted my transcript on time, but I heard nothing. I’m not even considering about Sonoma State anymore. It is really wasting my time. My grades are high enough, and I even got accepted into the UCs, so I am going to take my chance and be enrolled in one of the UCs instead. Good luck to those that are waiting to hear. I totally agree with dogoodthengo. By the way, I submitted all my CSUs applications on October 15th. Oh well, I’m not even going to Sonoma State anymore so there is no point for me to say anything now.
I applied on October 15th or so, and I still haven’t heard back… From the day I applied, it said my application was under review, and it is making me very frustrated that I haven’t heard anything back yet, even though I am a prime candidate, and Sonoma State was not only a safety school for me, but my first choice. If anyone here has any valuable information that I am as of yet not privy to, it would be much appreciated if you would share it with me. Thank you.
I submitted my application on November 27th with an impacted major for transfer and was admitted on February 29th. In all honesty I don’t have the best academics (GPA below 3.0) but perhaps it is taking them longer to send admissions to freshmen than transfers?
Hi everyone -
With SSU being my first choice, I can understand the feelings of uneasiness while waiting for a decision. I’m just going to walk through my process and hope it answers some questions. Keep in mind that each major is different, depending on impacted vs. not. Hopefully this is helpful to some!
I applied on 11/9/15 to SSU’s Pre-Nursing major (very impacted) with a 3.96 GPA and average SAT scores. I did not take the ACT, but with SSU’s eligibility index calculator, the high GPA balanced it all out. I have taken many honors/AP classes during high school, so I know that helps. Because it is impacted, the Pre-Nursing major had prerequisites to apply – while the average GPA of SSU was about 3.2 give or take, the minimum to even apply for the Pre-Nursing major is 3.5 with minimum grades of B in various science classes during high school. Therefore, I would definitely recommend going to your specific major’s section on the SSU website to see more info.
Now for the admissions decision process. I obsessively checked the MySSU portal 5+ times a day, practically every hour. I found out about my acceptance around the end of February by checking the portal. I saw the same message every day “your application is currently under review” until one day it said “Congratulations…!” It was about a week later that I received a postcard in the mail reminding me of housing deadlines. You can then accept/decline directly on the portal through a series of links. There’s even a step-by-step guide that explains what each screen means. Also, there’s a “to-do” list link where it tells you to submit test scores, etc. I submitted my official transcript earlier than necessary, but I would recommend getting it in as soon as possible because they just put it in your file.
Feel free to ask more questions. I’m happy to help, as my parents and I were in your exact same shoes not that long ago. Good luck to everyone!!
Hey everyone, for those still waiting just try to remain patient with the whole process. I was accepted a couple days ago (on the 16th), and still haven’t heard back from multiple other colleges, so they’re still reviewing the applications all across the cal state schools. It has a lot to do with how many applicants there are for a given major and just the competitiveness of the applicant pool. For those wondering, I’m a transfer student and a Kinesiology major with a 3.73 GPA. My first choice was SDSU (hence my username), but ended up being placed on the wait list and not really expecting to get accepted. So it looks like Sonoma is where I’m going.
@dogoodthengo I’m almost positive your daughter will be accepted. For some reason some majors just take longer to process and there are a lot of factors that go into the admissions process. If she was accepted to San Diego State and Cal Poly, two of the hardest Cal State schools to get into, she shouldn’t have any problem getting into Sonoma.
Thanks for your vote of confidence SDSUAZTECS–but I just not feeling the love for SSU right now. If I could cauterize that part of DD brain that insists this place is her first choice over all the wonderful colleges who had the decency to let her know promptly, I would gladly do so. Of course transfer students like yourself are on a different trajectory, as was I when I transferred for my MBA or my nursing degree–I don’t think I found out until April in one case, but transfer students into impacted majors are given ample warning about this.
However, the reality SDSUAZTECS is that all the freshmen I know (large pool) have already heard from ALL the State Colleges with the exception of Sonoma and a couple from Monterey …this does not bode well for my opinion of Sonoma (Monterey had a glitch with reporting test scores this year so that delay is understandable. Basically, as of Friday, everyone DD knows has now heard from Sonoma State. Yes, I’ve called, yes I’ve heard the line “because we’ve made the move to record numbers” or “because we do everything by hand” but it’s all BS to me because from where I am standing it looks like this process is not being done in order or by merit.
My husband and I have included all our schools and colleges in our will and have started doing same for our children’s schools. However, I’ve made it a point to tell D that if/when she gets in, SSU it will never see a cent of my donation money no matter how much she thinks she will love it there because of this hell they have put us thru. For now I will stand patiently by her side supporting her and hope for the best as this is all I can do. Very frustrating.
@dogoodthengo , I am as heat-broken as you are.
DD just got the good news she got in. YEAY!
It’s like a heavy weight has lifted off everyone in the house–even her 12 year old brother is breathing a sigh of relief. The dog is so happy to have his girl smiling and opening her bedroom door again.
This process was pure hell and I would not wish the heart break on anyone. Big hugs to you all as you search for your future academic home. Back when I was your age I walked onto SDSU with never a doubt I would be accepted. Seven years ago, I went thru a similar experience you guys are going thru becoming a second career nurse and finally gaining access to an impacted program in April after a long and tense wait, but I was a mature adult who already had a good academic and career life. I can’t imagine having to do this jockeying for best grades constantly from the time you are in high school–They don’t make it an easy process for young people. Big hugs to you all.
Now I have to order a new sweatshirt to replace the one she gave to her friend in February.
@dogoodthengo Congrats to her! Sounds like it was quite a process but at least it’s over
@dogoodthengo , I’m so glad that your daughter got accepted since it is her top choice! I still haven’t heard anything. But again, look like I care anymore. Such a disappointing college. I even canceled my upcoming field trip to Sonoma State. I hope the best for your daughter!
Got accepted, but not going hehe.
Got accepted yesterday!! That wait was agonizingly long…
@dogoodthengo has your daughter checked her financial aid package? I really want to check mine.
