ok im in a bit of a dilemma... i made my deposit for SSU and am already registered in classes then UCSC tells me i got accepted. ive always wanted to go to a UC but now that i got in im not sure... i visited both schools and loved them both campus wise.... im a chem major and know UC has more prestige but i plan to go to grad school. Although SSU isnt as known for its chem, it seems like the professors are way more active with helping students and making sure they understand everything

So what would you guys do? SSU or UCSC with plans to go to grad school... i think im leaning towards staying at Sonoma because im all set to go there

Go where you want . . . your performance will matter far more than the name of the school you attend. So go to Sonoma and do well!

Are you living on campus for both schools? Difference in total price? How much would you lose that is not refundable from SSU?

If there is a significant money difference, go to the cheaper one and save money for grad school. If not, start considering the differences in size, graduation rates, and departments and how much they matter to you. Ultimately, go where you think you will feel comfortable to do your best.

Deciding to go with Sonoma State because you’re already set there seems like a weak reason to choose it.

It’s great that you’ve toured both schools and like them both, but you need to dig a little more. Talk/email with some professors at Sonoma State, and find out what opportunities there are for students to work with professors, get involved with research, and the like. Find out how many students went from Sonoma to grad school, and where they went. Try to talk to some current chemistry students. Compare chem classes between the two schools. Compare major requirements. Find out how easy or hard it is to get into those classes. Ask those Sonoma State profs what they’d recommend for you, given your two options.

Then do the same thing with UCSC.

Be smart, go to UCSC. It is just a much better, higher ranked and respected school You will have a more interesting and intellectual student body. I think it is underrated among the UC’s as well.

Got to UCSC. I don’t even think SSU compares.
