“Chapman University has an amazing film program," Sony Pictures Television president Steve Mosko told The Hollywood Reporter. "Dean Robert Bassett has done an amazing job attracting the top names in town to speak. Chapman is quickly becoming the place for industry kids to attend, both for the undergraduate and graduate programs. Additionally, we have had a number of interns from Chapman working here at SPT and they have been some of the best we’ve seen.

Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts in Orange County, Calif., which rose from No. 22 to No. 13 on THR's Top 25 Film Schools list this year, will add Leslie Dixon, Steve Hirsen, Harry Ufland and Barry Blaustein as new faculty members this fall,
bringing the faculty total to 41 full-time and 77 adjuncts.
Dixon, writer of Just Like Heaven and Freaky Friday and producer of Limitless, will be O.L. Halsell Foundation filmmaker-in-residence. Previous filmmakers in residence include JoAnne Sellar (There Will Be Blood) and William Friedkin (The Exorcist).
Emmy-winning director Hirsen (Entertainment Tonight, America's Funniest Home Videos) will be assistant professor of TV and broadcast journalism.
Producer Ufland (The Big Wedding, The Last Temptation of Christ), a former William Morris agent repping Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro, will be professor of creative producing.
Blaustein (Coming to America, The Nutty Professor) will be associate professor of
screenwriting."

WOW! That’s fantastic news!

Thank you very much Gladiatorbird for finding and bringing this important article to our attention!!

Wow what a quote! Someone should get this article to Chapman Universities’ PR Department and they should create an entire marketing campaign around it.

I just added a topic called “Sony Pictures Television president says “Chapman U has amazing film program” to the Visual Arts and Film Majors forum on College Confidential to help with publicity.

Thank you again Gladiatorbird.

This is terrific stuff. I keep forwarding all this to DH who was skeptical about D’s choice of Chapman/Dodge over NYU/Tisch. What I really need to do is get him out there to see the place and see how happy D is there. We are far away her on the East Coast though and he already has a busy travel schedule for work. (And his company is based in NorCal.) But I think he’s getting curiouser and curiouser…

Whole family (5 of us) is still planning to visit out there in January. I can report in about how construction on the new arts center is progressing! Chapman is surely on a roll!

We feel the same way. It was a bit gut-wrenching for DS to say no to USC SCA, but each day that passes tells us he made the right choice. The Dodge students we’ve met at all levels–freshman through seniors–are on fire. The school is buzzing with optimism and can-do energy. The students impress the heck out of us with their resourcefulness and smarts. Our freshman son is thrilled to be among them. He fits in perfectly (high on Industrious & Quirk Factors/zero on Frat Quotient…and USC didn’t feel right to him in that regard).

I’ve never seen him so happy and focused. It’s like he landed inside some nuclear reactor of focused creativity and drive. The drive there is striking–it really makes the Dodge kids stand out. That and the general warmth.

Our son is activated and stimulated like nobody’s business. He definitely chose the right program in Dodge. With Honors College, to boot, he’s where he should be. :)

FYI: Today I past on this article to the top Chapman University and Dodge College Administrators along with the idea to create an entire marketing campaign around it.

I also sent it to the Panther Newspaper
