I've bought three desktops through IBuyPower and they've been awesome. It's like building your own computer except you don't have to worry about getting the individual parts or putting it together. Definately a great source and I'd highly recommend them. I've never had a problem with one though, so I couldn't tell you how good they are from a support perspective. I'd assume you know at least something about computers before you get one through them though because otherwise you might have no idea which options to choose.

By the way, for all you "Dell Lovers", having a single computer that worked doesn't mean anything, nor do those "my programmer/computer guy family member says they're great" help. I've been working at best buy and come in contact with more computer owners than most of you will ever know and you wouldn't believe how many people want to buy a part for a Dell and can't find it without going through them, waiting for shipping, and paying whatever price Dell decides on. Furthermore, our Geek Squad (tech people) get so much of their business from people who own Dell computers it's laughable.

Lastly, I always have a good time when someone comes in with advice from one of their "tech friends"; for the most part, they have no idea what they're talking about because all of their assumptions are 3 years old. They still think Compaq and Emachine are seperate companies.

I have a five-year old Dell Inspiron 8000, still working great. Sort that out.

This is a predictable phenomenon only because Dell is the most popular PC brand and has been for the last recent years. All of the people I know who've used Dell haven't had any significant problems, other than user-inflicted damage, inadvertent of course.

Yup i have a 3 yr old dell and it still works great...

SO SO Far.. everybody who owns a dell in this thread been praising it... Unless you actually used a DELL that BROKE DOWN then i wouldn't talk about it. Otherwise you are just talking about "there's friend of my friend's that i know... etc"

Whoa, if you want to do ANY SORT OF GAMING you need a dedicated graphics card. Integrated Intel video will NOT cut it. A cheap laptop with a gfx chip is the dell e1505 with either a x1300, x1400 or a 7400 TC. Those cards would suffice for casual gaming.

go with Acer, it has far best graphic of all!!! and very cheap price, many of the laptop equipped with dedicated video cards 256mb. I have an Acer laptop and it is been 3 years and i have no problem, and I just bring it to lan party and I would beat everyone else's laptop. My acer laptop was bought 3 years ago equipped with ATI Radeon 9700. So go with ACER, many of their laptops are equipped with ATI Radeon x1400, x1600

i'll admit, i haven't owned a dell - and i never will. four of my friends with dells had to replace their hard drive after about a year. my boyfriend had had his dell for a little less than a year and hasn't had any problems yet, however i fully expect his hard drive to die sometime in the upcoming months and i have actually put money aside to buy a new one when that comes up, because i'm pretty sure his extended warranty will refuse to pay for it, as it did for my friends as well.

Actually, I own three, two desktops and a notebook. I'm on one of the desktops, now - I've had it for three years.

More people have Dells --> more people complain.

Those of us that actually know how to use a computer and take care of it...well...we've been only having great results.

It's funny you say it doesn't count that I've had immediate family members with intimate knowledge of computers praise Dell, as well as use and own them myself, but it counts from someone who doesn't even /own/ one...like another poster said, most of the complaints here are "a friend of a friend of a friend". Whatever. Like /those/ accounts mean anything.
