Soo... i procrastinated.. please help =(

i waited too long to order my laptop! noww.. if i order it from dell online.. by the time they ship it out it'll arrive at my house after the move in date.

can i use the personal address in bear facts to have the laptop shipped to? i'm not really sure how mailboxes and stuff work.

pleasee help. i don't know what to do now =(

move in a couple days....after u get ur laptop....so order ASAP

so should i order it now? and ship it to that personal address that they give us on bearfacts?

or wait till i'm already moved in and made sure of where to ship it to and all that to order it?

where are you living?

the mailrooms are open right now so you can put your berkeley address. The way the mailrooms work is when you get a large item they put a slip in your mailbox saying you have a package and you need to sign for it to get it.

They took a week exactly to deliver mine from the date I ordered it. I ordered my 6000D on the 4th of August and it got here on the 11th. They might show an estimate of like September or something but trust me, it will get there much quicker then expected. I am typing on my lovely 6000D right now. ;)

Ohh and they have the 40% off going on right now, so do it quick. Last week, I ordered mine with the 34% off with 12% additional EPP discount. Right now is the perfect time to order.

well move in day is just a week away. Use your best judgement

It'll take a few days for Dell to ship the laptops from Malaysia to the US and then to your house. It should take 5-6 days to get to you IF Dell has all the parts.

Or order through tsw and have it arrive at their place and you can pick it up when you go to Berkeley.

actually, i have a better idea:

1.) get in your car

2.) drive to your nearest Apple store

3.) purchase an iBook G4 (they were recently upgraded and are comparatively inexpensive)

4.) enjoy.

you'll thank me later.

Comparatively inexpensive?

Apple is ALWAYS expensive. They have the highest markups on computer hardware.

You can get a notebook for about $500-$600 provided you don't need any heavy computing power.

And the iBook G4 upgrades were nonsense, a small MHz boost, a new video card with less than enough memory, and more built in memory?

My friend is a die-hard member ofthe Mac cult and even he criticized Apple for this 'upgrade'.

You can order it two days before you leave for Berkeley with your new address (available on Bearfacts) and so by mid-week you should have your computer if you're worried that it won't make it on time.

If you customize it, it will take longer.

thanks everyone for the advice!
i think i'll just go with ordering in a few days, and have it arrive at berkeley.

Do we have to put our room# and Resident Hall for our mailing address?

Name

Hall Name Rm #1234

thanks, whoa...kyle, any ideas what would happen if something was shipped to:

Name
2650 Durant Ave #1234
Berkeley, CA 94720-1234

(currently trying to address the problem, but worst case scenario).

I have no idea what would happen because you have to keep in mind that the address is supposedly for the unit and not your hall. If you don't distinguish your hall it could be any one of the buildings because every hall has the same amount of rooms (pretty much). Including the hall name is crucial.

I figured, thanks again :). I think I can remedy the situation tomorrow, and hopefully it won't be lost in the abyss...

"Apple is ALWAYS expensive. They have the highest markups on computer hardware."

I won't argue with you there. However, while Apple does have high prices, as do other laptop manufacturers (e.g. IBM, Fujitsu), they also make quality products and provide quality support, unlike Dell and other companies. Personally, those are the only three companies I would buy a laptop from, unless I were strapped for cash or only intended to have the laptop last 2-3 years.

Sure, I could get a machine with comparable specs to the T43 from Dell for $500 less. But it would be heavier, hotter, break sooner, and require me to talk to idiots over the phone when it did break. Quality costs a little extra sometimes.

I recently bought a dell, simply because it was an amazing deal. I'm not too worried about tech support, since I usually figure problems out for myself.

These days though, I wouldn't say that apple has the largest profit margins on at least some of its products. Look at the mac mini, $499 is pretty sexy. I'd say SONY has huge profit margins, vaios look good and all, but are they really worth 30% more for the same speficiations?

My dell has amazing specs and heat is a non-issue these days with Pentium-M. It is heavy, but thats mostly because I have two batteries (I can get something like 9 hours of battery life with limited harddrive access, or 7 hours with continuous harddrive access)
