What's a girl in the south to do? How many pairs of mittens/gloves do I really need to buy?

How warm/thick does my jacket need to be? Shoes that were made to walk in the snow?

My parents seem to think I'm going to one of the poles or something. Granted, I know this will be the coldest weather I've ever experienced for long periods of time. (Though, I love the cold and love to ski so cold weather isn't exactly new to me. I already have a ski jacket that's really warm and has two seperate layers that can be taken apart to be independent of each other.)

Basically, what do people in the freezing midwest wear when they are having to walk from buildng to building when there is a negative temp. and snow on the ground? In my area, we get about 1/4 of an inch of snow, and the entire town is shut down for the day.

Beer and Cheese...........plus brats. Cold? I cannot hear you? Who ever worried about their jacket? Nobody on any campus worries, they just walk faster.

Ts, I would wait to buy winter clothes once you get there. (Take a few things that you have already for outdoors cold.) You can see what you need from other students. It will be warm when you arrive. My s purchased a few things online after he arrived and went to the local mall a few times as well for shoes (not boots), gloves, head stuff, silk stuff needed when walking longer distances. He said that he loved the quiet of the winter but was glad to see the spring and that was from a person who had never lived in a cold climate until Appleton. Everything indoors is super warm. Doesn't seem to be a big deal.
