I posted this before, but I want more responses to this.

I've always been very self-conscious about this: Are Indians really Asians?
I mean technically they are, but so are Russians. Normally we don't call them Asians, but we call them Europeans or White.
When people say "Asian" they think of flat nosed, flat faces, slant eyes, etc. Basically the features of a Mongoloid skull (I refuse to say oriental because its offensive). Indians physically look NOTHING like Asians.

And in America, when people say "Indian" they stupidly think of the Native Americans...I seriously can't believe what a fool Columbus was, but w/e.
That said, shouldn't "Asian Indians" or "East Indians" be in a separate category?

I always choose "other" when I sign forms asking my ethnicity and race.

I’m pretty sure in the UK, when they say Asian they are referring to Indians. It’s all a matter of which culture is more prevalent in your country.

this is only kinda hilarious…
yeah the syloogism works but the guy has a point, most people don’t think Idia country when they hear Indian, they don’t think Aisa either, I’d say Indians are but it would be nice to have Asian subcategories…Idk,

I think Indians should be called Asians because we are! Especially for me, living in Hong Kong, I feel extra Asian as I’m Indian by birth and living in a typically “Asian” city. But yes, Indians on the whole are vastly different from the Chinese or other East Asians, except for North Eastern Indians who are similar in looks to Tibetans.

^^Oh, I see where you were coming from. The OP asked if Indians “should” be classified as Asians, but I forgot the title and I was confused by your wording.

Here’s what wikipedia says

So in the census, “Asian” is being defined as a race. It used to be an ethnicity (Oriental).

India is in Asia, so sure, they are Asians if there isn’t a more specific category to chose.

Oh and by the way, at least where I live (a very WASP midwestern suburb), when people say “Indian” we usually think of people from India. When people say “Native American” we think of Native Americans. “Indian” seems to be dying term for Native Americans.

What? Since when did they become the more advanced people? I agree that they do have better technology, but calling one race less advanced is almost the same as calling them inferior. You didn’t have to mention that last part - that was totally unnecessary. I’m sure the first part would have sufficiently answered the question.

Indians should be classified as Asians, at least until their own ‘South Asian’ category gets provided.

^i hate that freaking group. but, how did they just…show up at your school? did your administration do anything about it?/how did the students react? [lol, sorry for the game of 20 questions…just curious :P]
