Thanks everyone, now I have a pretty good picture (for an intl) about the two colleges Of course, getting in is a big hurdle in itself. How close is Boston to Midd? Is it possible to get around without a car?

As I remember college, the academics are the focus. I have an S at Williams who often can’t make time for the film at the indie movie theater, and he adores indie films. Every week there are concerts, movies, lectures he just doesn’t have time for because his workload is so great. I would imagine this is true at Midd and Bowdoin, too.

Boston to Midd is a trek. Boston to Bowdoin is somewhat easier.

Last time I checked, Bowdoin was not in Portland. I did note in my post that it was nearby.
I never had any friends at Bowdoin when I was at Bates, but it had just gone co-ed, and women weren’t treated very well. There was little, if any mixing between the schools. This was not in the 1800s, but less than 30 years ago. Perhaps that’s where some of my issues originate.
I didn’t mean to insinuate that it wasn’t a great school , and I did note that most students would be lucky to have a choice between Midd, Bowdoin, or Bates for that matter.
