SUGGESTIONS?

How about these as matches:

Macalester
Smith
Bates

For those majors, look at
Claremont-McKenna
Brandeis
George Washington
Middlebury
Duke

Georgetown is probably a match; Johns Hopkins perhaps also.

But the unanswered question is finances. Do you need financial aid? Have you spoken with your parents seriously about that? If not, now is the time you should, because that should be part of your application strategy.

You need to look around at your local community colleges and at your home state public universities and find ONE that offers the program(s) you are interested in, that will admit you based on your statistics alone, and that you can pay for without any financial aid other than federally determined financial aid. This is what you call a "True Safety".

Apply to that school early (most of these have rolling admissions) so that you have it in the bag. Then you can expend your energy on finding good matches and a few reaches for admissions, and hunt down good financial packages for yourself. As dadofsam wrote above, you really need to know how much money will be available for your education and just exactly where it is going to come from.

I can't imagine why a student of this caliber would consider applying to a community college unless there were special personal circumstances involved.

Consolation -

I included my standard advice about "True Safety" schools for this student because of the statement "safety - gwu, but its really expensive i have no clue" in the original post.

Everyone (even your Clearly-In-At-HYPSM candidates) needs ONE place that they know:
a) They can get into
and
b) They can pay for

Generally speaking, they will get into a lot of other places too, and almost always they will find some way to pay for at least one of those other places. Sometimes, however (and you really don't have to read very far in the financial aid forum to find someone like this) they don't.

i probably will get little financial aid, considering my parents income. I have four siblings, however, and that income does not all go to me.. I will have to take out loans to pay most of my education, my parents will probably help some. i am prepared to do that.

also, i loathe my state school, but will proabably end up applying as a TRuE safety. i am positive i can get in.

thanks for the help, ill def look into all of those matches. I'm not a fan of Smith, i don't think i can deal with an all girl enviornment.

any other match schools that are good in my intended area of study?

thanks so much!

p.s. i would prefer to stay on eastern side of country

Boston College as a match, probably even as a little bit of a safety. you would also most definetly get into BU and NYU, but theyre all really expensive.

try to looks for schools that you could definetly get merit aid at for safeties

Happymom, your point is very well taken, and I understood what you were driving at, but for this student I would think that the state U would be safe enough on both counts. Even though she doesn't like the state u, it seems highly unlikely that she would prefer a CC. But I suppose stranger things have happened.
