over the past week i've gotten a crew letter, a handwritten card from the admissions director, a poster, a coursebook, a letter from a wellesley student, and an email...they must really love their applicants!

Haha, that was weird. We posted very similar posts at exactly the same time.

Yep, same here. Phone calls, etc.

I figure if a college really wants an applicant, it'll bend over backwards.

If I don't choose to go to Wellesley, I'm going to feel so remorseful, especially after all this attention lavished on me in their aggressive recruiting process.

The letters ... so funny. I imagine them streaming after me for the rest of my life. If I don't go, I have the impression that the army of Wellesley recruiters will be after me.

I never got a poster! frowns

haha, no, I've been getting the same kind of stuff. The thing that I was most impressed about, actually, was my admissions officer's handwriting. SO IMPRESSIVE!! I thought that it was a font until I compared two "a's" in her letter.

I've gotten emails from every officer of the Wellesley debate team...sheesh! I love feeling loved.

ya i'm loving the attention. it makes me feel so guilty that i'm probably not going there.

Well they may be wooing you likelys, but as a "possible" I'm feeling quite rejected by Wellesley. I haven't gotten any mail since the EE letter.

I hope I'm not the only possible who that's happened to. Otherwise, I'll be really scared to open that decision letter next week!

I've gotten a lot of mail here too (though much later) and it's nice - except for when you're hoping for the decisions from other universities; but the individual attention shows that Wellesley is a college I will be happy to attend, if I can go there.

wolfstarslasher...no worries :(

Sorry for making this torturous for all of you "possible"s and RD applicants. Shame on us all!

On the one hand, it's definitely a great feeling to have a college send you love letters. On the other hand, all this extra attention is going to make final decisions for me that much harder.

allure--that's exactly what they want :)

The extra mailings do not make it any better of a school--maybe to the contrary, they are trying to send us muchos mail because they're trying to make up for something that they cannot offer.

Overall, however, I am looking forward to getting the tangible acceptance letter as opposed to just the likely.

blondelock - yeah, I get that nagging feeling too, that perhaps they're trying to compensate for a weakness with overwhelming amounts of mail. I rifled through the course catalogue and wasn't too thrilled with some of the courses. There didn't seem to be too much to choose from in certain areas.

The thrill from the likely letter and the excessive mailing has worn off. In the end, I won't make my college decision by the most prolific mailer... and I think it's highly unlikely that we get rejected at this point, so your awaited tangibility will definitely arrive :).

i think they're trying to compensate for the fact that they're an all girls' school

yea, possibles don't get much love !! :( what a shame...

Yeah, I agree with you crazychai.

I really don't think that Wellesley is trying to compensate for "bad academics" or anything like that, because I mean, its Wellesley guys, why would they have to? However, the fact that it IS an all girls' school really isn't a turn on for a lot of applicants. I know that this isn't true for everyone, but I certainly didn't apply for the student body. You also have to consider that basically everyone that will get accepted to Wellesley will also have been accepted to other awesome schools that are on the same playing field as Wellesley. A possible advantage of those other schools (it depends on what you think about womens' colleges) will be the fact that they are co-ed.

Congratulations to everyone that has received a likely letter! I understand (and I hope) that we won't make decisions based on the amount of mail we receive from certain schools. However, college admissions is like a business and these people's jobs are to convince admits to enroll in their school so I don't think its fair to criticize Wellesley on sending so much mail. Yes, some of them seem unrealistic, and they do get a little repetitive, but take them for what they're worth, and be grateful that you're a likely, receiving these letters, and not a possibly or an unlikely and having to be left out of the loop.

Like Avis, womens colleges do have to "try harder." I think that's all that's behind all the mailings.

I also think the Early Evaluation option is one of the most humane things ing the college admissions process...I wish more schools would do it. I'll always have some fondness for Wellesley because getting the "Likely" took the pressure off my D in a way nothing else could. Fwiw, I checked the stats for something like the entering class of 2003 and no one who got a likely was ultimately denied. Past performance does not guarantee future results, yada yada. Good luck to you all.

i havent gotten anythign from wellesley.. :/ is this typical if im a regular decision applicant?

and does getting stuff from them essentially = admission?

Yeah getting stuff means admission because the only people who have gotten anything are accepted ED applicants and EE girls who got likely letters.

So for all RD/possibles/unlikelys, an empty mailbox is normal, though somewhat sad!

i didnt get any mail from wellesley until two days ago. im RD and international, so like i got a little postcard acknowledging my application. anyways, day before yesterday i got a three page summary of all about wellesly swimming. their stats, most recent results and basically telling me how great it is. im a swimmer and also filled in an extra form the coach sent me. wondering if thats a likely..what do u think

TheDad--absolutely. EE is one of the most wonderful options available in college admissions today. When deciding on my admission plan at Wellesley, I seriously could not think of a reason NOT to use the early evaluation option--and the notification, like you said, has helped my outlook in a way nothing else could.

I was reading one of those silly college guides at Barnes & Noble yesterday, and it specifically noted the friendliness of the admissions staff and their willingness to notify applicants in a timely and convenient manner. That friendliness has unequivocally been present. Wellesley and the Wellesley admissions staff have been very good to us.

I agree, EE is an amazing option (even though I'm afraid my 'possible' letter may have given me false hope for a lost cause) and the admissions staff has been friendly and efficient--truy amazing!

Yay for Wellesley! :)
