Okay so my sister and I filed our fasfas on time. However, both our schools need verification through tax transcripts because the IRS data retrieval tool was not working for us. I was able to use the tool today as well as retrieve my tax transcript online. However, I was unable to get my fathers. I put all of the information in correctly and it did not show me a tax transcript. His tax preparer filed his taxa electronically and I also looked at his tax return worksheet I was given and it showed "0" as amount owed in taxes. I am not understanding…. I haven't even gotten my financial aid package because of this and it is really scaring me. My sister hasn't gotten her aid for the year either because of it also. We don't know what to do. How do we get it? I have his 2013 1040 tax return forms with all of the information. Can I give this to both financial aid offices? or must I really obtain a transcript from the IRS website?

@4kidsdad - The OP said she already attempted to get a copy of her dad’s transcript online and was unsuccessful.

@paintgirl417, you should . . .

(1) Contact the tax preparer and find out when the return was filed.
(2) Contact your school financial aid office and ask them what you should do.

@4kidsdad - If the transcript isn’t yet available, then it isn’t yet available. If it’s not available online, then it’s also not going to be available by mail.

I was thinking that her father’s tax transcript is available but they just couldn’t retrieve it online; then they can request it to be send by mail. If her father has Federal tax refund and was able to check the status of his refund; his tax transcript was most likely be available.

It says that on the tax return sheet that his tax preparer filed his taxes on April 26 electronically. Wouldn’t his information be available already? This is so confusing. I am leaving for my SMDEP internship in two days and wanted to get this out of the way before I left but I can’t.

Ask your dad to call the IRS and find out what the delay is. They should be able to tell him if it’s been processed yet. And, since it was filed after April 15, it’s possible that it’s just at the back of a very long line.
