So do I have a chance at:

Princeton
Yale
Penn (Wharton)
Brown
Cornell
Michigan

My feeling was that I have a chance, not an amazing chance, but not bad (on all except Cornell and Michigan, where I should be admitted)

okay so if your lowest grade is an A- how are you 18th??? i mean, it's hard to believe 17 ppl have straight A's with not even one A-. Also, how is ur GPA only a 3.93 if you have straight A's with only one A-? shouldnt it be at least a 3.95?????

ha no I have 7 A-'s, 3 were AP Classes, there are extenuating (sp) circumstances behind two more of them, noted on my app. I included that "no grades lower than an a-" because I know that some schools, like michigan, drop all minuses and plusses, which gives me a 4.0 for them.

Your GPA is superb (4.0 by normal standards if you only got As and A-s), ACT is ok, SAT IIs ok, and ECs are pretty good, I think (lettered in 3 sports, in marching band, worked several jobs, and raised $4250? Sounds good to me ^^).

All in all, for those schools.... You're most likely in at Cornell! Princeton, Yale, Penn, and Brown are reaches for everybody... But I get the feeling that you'll get into one of them. Michigan, I don't know the stats for, so I'll shut my mouth ^^

That was exactly the feeling I had (Michigan should be a pretty good match unless they do more to screw up my app and make it more late, since they are rolling. Something like delaying it another month) Thank You. Honestly, Michigan is a great school. Anything after is just like a bonus. Plus if I think this way, I'm won't be devestated by a rejection.

Edit: Also, is an A- a 4.0 for anyone out there? It was for me in 7th and 8th grade, so I was suprised when I got to High School and it wasn't.

I'm not so convinced you'll get into AT LEAST ONE of Princeton, Yale or Penn...

Your rank, and ACT score are all just OK to these schools.

And you don't have an EC which sticks out as WOW enough to make up for that. The Ebay thing seems pretty cool, but I'm not convinced it's hook enough for admission to one of these ultra-competetive schools...

Don't mean to burst your bubble... just don't want your hopes excessively inflated.

agree with kev07.....its not likely youll get into an top ranked ivy (HYP), as your ECs are standard compared to applicants with ivy league caliber. your ecs are great, but its important to understand you are competing against people who are insane....like going to africa to found a business, ranked within top ten nationally in sport (dont know your ranking), to name a few

and what do you want us to say? that youll get in to harvard? becuase nobody can say that

I was just looking for some opinions on if I had a chance at PYBP, see if I had the ECs and stats to be a considered applicant. lol, I didn't even apply to Harvard. I know that at that level, you have to be a person they are looking for. Also, my CC team is top 5 in the nation.

Do keep in mind that I didn't say that he was guaranteed admission to one of the top Ivies - I said I had the feeling he will. In other words, I sorta mean that although "Yale, Princeton, Penn, Brown" are reaches individually, they're somewhat of a match all together. He has a good shot at making it into one of them, because his stats definitely do make him competitive there - although he may not stand out, he still is in the competitive pool.
