I have a cold, and my throat is sore, any suggesitons for ways to soothe my throat? (not meds). Your help is greatly appreciated, have a happy day!

Gurgling saltwater can help relieve your sore throat (make sure you don't swallow!) Apparently the saltwater causes the bacteria to lose water (in an effort to create a state of equilibrium), and the bacteria die off.

Other than that, I personally find drinking warm fluids to be soothing.

Hope you're feeling better soon :)

I don't know how sore your throat is and what your schedule is but in a pinch you can use numbing spray or lozenges that will numb your throat. I have had to resort to that but it is better than misery when you have an exam or performance.

you might want to try drinking honey.

hot tea w/ lemon and honey works wonders ><>

yeah what the above posters have said.
I like lemon tea when I have a sore throat..

Once, I had these powerful lozenges and they fully numbed my taste buds and everything tasted awful. Plus, I didn't know that they were laxatives and I had to go poopoo a lot because I was taking one after the other.
So i don't suggest powerfulpowerful lozenges but honey/lemon lozenges taste good and works well.

Oh and I got a cold too! but a runny nose for me..

I would get banned if I answered.

There is an Arabic dressing called tehinee. One spoon of that will sooth your throat for hours. You can find Tehini (or Tehinee) at any major super market.

you mean Tahini?
I had never heard of that as a treatment
I like wild cherry bark tea
http://www.traditionalmedicinals.com/?id=28&pid=10

It is an Arabic word, so there is no right way of spelling it in English! LOL But yes, Tahini works wonders. Immediate relief.

Gargle with a mouthwash like Cepacol. It works perfectly.
Edit: Unless that counts as a medication...

But non-med... I have a sore throat right now and my mom makes me drink hot water mixed with a tablespoon of honey. It works but not for a long time. And it doesn't taste too good. I think it's just the hot water that soothes it, not the honey like she thinks.
