Sophie Davis Pgm.

Sticky like a cinnamon bun. Sweet...

got an interview e-mail for March 8th. i thought i wouldnt even get an interview.

i got an interview too

Sticky? Sweet? What, makshim? lol

yay for more interviews!

So yeah I had my 3 interviews. One was with a British Pathologist, another was with a French administrator guy. I think both went well, the student one I was a bit nervous for. The administrator clearly tried to grill me and catch me in traps but I think I responded well. It was cut short because he got a phonecall and had to go.

my interview is tomorrow
i hope it goes well..pretty nervous...

and my school is leaving for deca states at rochester tomorrow too..grr i better get back to school in time

Does Sophie Davis have higher expectations for Long Island Students? And when it comes to reviewing applications is it true that the City kids are at an advantage over the Long Island kids?

I ask this because last year a handful of kids from my school applied and no one got in. What surprised me was one of my friends who had a 3.9 with 7 aps, 2320 on Sats and a national merit scholarship finalist, with volunteering and research got rejected. Everyone else that applied had 3.6-3.7 which is an 92-94 avg with close to 1450 sats didnt even get interviews.

The year before that only 1 person got in and he had a 1560 (old sat) national leader award, siemens finalist, president of school, among other things.

This year 7 kids applied, including myself, all of us have 1400+ sats, great extracirrulars, and 30+ on act and 200+ of volunteer work, yet none of us have recieved any sort of interview notifications.

i have an interview tomorrow and i'm worried....

collegebum - what are your ecs?

My friend who attends sophie davis said I was guaranteed an interview because of ECs. Only 1 person got interview from my school, she was the Intel Semifinalist.

But the kid that I knew who got in had the same stats as me, but less ECs

That certainly puts my EC's to shame.

first, you BUILT a hospital? ***?

second, sophie does something very few other institutions do - they evaluate how likely applicants are to attend SD once they are accepted. If your EC's are true and are that vast, in addition to the excellent GPA (92-96ish) and SAT's I am sure you have, they probably didn't ask for an interview because they figured you were going to an ivy. A close friend of mine had a 99 overall average UW, yes UW. He had 7 APs, president of his school, 1560 / 1600 SAT, intel semi finalist and the list goes on. He didn't get into sophie, he DID get into HPME.... country's #1 program.

I'm only a soph in high school. I do my research at sophie, and my mentor is on the admissions committee. We talk about the process here and there, and from what I have learned - you HAVE to show extreme interest in them. It kinda sucks, your scores can't be that bad.... but they can't be that great. Your EC's can't be horrible ... but they shouldn't be amazing.

It's all politics. Once you're into sophie though .... your life is S-E-T.

idk, if u look at tryp's stats, you could see that that they were amazing and he got an interview. I used to think the same thing, cause i had friends with really good grades who didn't get interviews. Its very unpredictable, fill out the application and hope to get an interview. I don't anyone who applied had ec's like collegebum's.

With stellar everything's, I think you'd be miserable at Sophie anyway. You'd want to accomplish so much more than just getting an MD degree...

haha, but seriously i think just like other schools, sophie davis looks for more than grades, ec's, etc. What that this, no one here knows for sure. Whether it be maturity, interest in the school, or personality (all which are kind of hard to tell from an application), no one really knows. But I'm pretty sure having really good grades can't hurt you. :)

Tryp would like to note that she is female :)

Also, Sophie really likes kids from my H.S. (stuyvesant), which could play a role also.

bronx science is #1

=)

u guyz think there is any hope for an interview now?

yea, dont worry. when i was at my interview, i overheard the admissions ppl talking about 2 more weeks of interviewing (my interview was on the 8th). Sent my interview notice one week before interview.

sorry tryp, thought u were a guy :)
