hey,
Thank you venator for replying
can anyone who was accepted to queens Bridge to Medicine tell me about the interview to get in. what did they ask you and what are they looking for?

Hi, I'm a new member. I was just wondering if there is an interview before the actual applications are in. In other words, are there 2 interviews? i highly doubt this stupid question but if anyone can answer it id appreciate it. thankyou.

venator - Take the SD ACT it is CUNY's equivalent to the act but far less easy.

krnb0i- no there is no interviw before you can send applications... only after thy recieve your app.

uriA702 - umm what do you mean by "far less easy?". Is it harder?

Is the Bridge to Medicine program only open for Queens residents? And also, are the applications closed by now?

Yes applications are closed, and I believe it is open to everyone within the five boroughs.

Wait, this program is only open to NY Residents! It says no such thing on the site:

Can someone please clarify this and post a link where it says that (I am/was really interested in this program!)

what program are you talking about?

stony brook

This thread is about the Sophie Davis program at CUNY-City College. That program is open only to New York Residents.

The Stony Brook is open to everyone, not just limited to New York Residents.

Oh snap! That it is my bad! I thought this was Stony Brook. Sweet! Thanks for the info.

Is it necessary to take the ACT at Sophie Davis? I am registered for the September 15th ACT, and I am unsure as to whether or not that is sufficient. The only reason that I'd consider the Sophie ACT would be if I did not do as well as hoped on the September test. If anyone did take the test outside of Sophie, please let me know. If anyone took the test outside and at Sophie, is there any difference? Thanks for any responses.

It is not necessary to take the ACT as Sophie Davis. I have a friend who took the ACT outside and got a 30, she told me that the Sophie Davis test is a courtesy they offer and it is suppose to be the same as the regular ACT.

If you dont mind me asking, have you taken the SAT yet? And what was your score?

Im taking the test Septmeber 15. When I get my score, I'd be glad to share. Did your friend with the 30 get in? Also, how detrimental is it that I am a Caucasian male? The doctor that I have been working with is Asian, graduated from Sophie Davis, and said it is difficult for Asians and Caucasians to get into the program. Is anyone who has been accepted on this board Caucasian?

Yes my friend with a 30 got it, she told me that getting a interview is easy... it is the interview that is important since they evaluate you (She is Asian btw). Regarding the Caucasian thing, it will make it harder since the program is meant for disadvantaged students and being Caucasian/ Asian usually means your smart enough to get into med school on your own. But I really cant tell you how much it will affect you.

Is it true that Sophie Davis isn't too concerned with the SAT score? I've heard that they only use it as a cut off, and are more concerned with the ACT. I have a 1390 SAT (710 Math, 680 CR), but I am taking the SAT again, because I usually score perfect on the CR section, and got a 78 on the PSAT. (I had a really bad day on the actual SAT). I am pretty confident however, that I can nail the ACT.

Also, to anyone on this board that has been accepted, are any of you Caucasian? I'm really beginning to fear that this is my biggest handicap for SD.

Thanks for any responses.

Hey guys, I was wondering what kind of questions do they ask in the interview and is the interview hard? Do you need to be sophisticated in the responses and what is the best way to prepare? Thank You in advance.

Just do your best. (and as others have said, check the old messages in this thread.) :)
