Sophie Davis Pgm.

i called them and they told me the code, but i don't remember it. If you send it to CUNY, remember there are two CUNY's, pick the one in new york, new york.

i m a junior in high school and i would like to go to SD .but im not sure if i would make it.can someone tell in what range u should get for sat and act.b/c i've heard different ranges.

Hi vani8,

There isn't a set range, really... many other factors can affect what happens. That's probably why you have heard different ranges; everybody's circumstances are different.

Just do the very best that you can! :)

thank u for replying
would u get in if u have a rang of 1200-1700 in the sat and write 4 essays.can u tell me what r the requirments for sd with the grades.and is it really hard to get in.

the min. score for SD is a 1200 SAT (M+V) and a 25 ACT
you need at least an 85 average in HS

SD is a very hard program and only abt 75 people get in (i doubt i will!)

Have you seen this yet? <a href="http://med.cuny.edu/admissions.html%5B/url%5D">http://med.cuny.edu/admissions.html</a></p>

[[edit: Only submit 3 essays. Follow their instructions.]] I guess if you wrote really good ones [[for those 3]], they'll pay more attention to your application.
I don't know about the range for the new SAT, but for the old one I think it was above 1150 (out of 1600). 1200-1700 seems a bit low for the new SAT. The full score is 2400 isn't it? You shouldn't be worrying about this yet; just focus on getting the highest score you can. But if you're really curious, you should call them and ask. You don't have to give your name.

I heard that they're getting an increasing number of applications, so admission is getting tougher, but if you really want to come to sophie, don't let anything stop you from applying!

isnt it only 3 essays?

Yeah dumbstruck1089, you're right. 3 essays. Thanks!

vani8, do not send 4 essays! Write them the 3 they asked for, but write them well of course. They have enough to read through already. :) They might take 4 essays if you go talk to the office and give them a compelling reason why you need to submit another one...

I think 75 is roughly the number of matriculants.

[edit]
I just took a closer look at the new application... they're asking for some info I don't remember being in the application I filled out 3.5 years ago. Maybe they're trying to get students who are more likely to participate in school events...

sorry about that one of my friends told me it was four .i reallly want to get in but my friend told me its really tough and all.

3 essays. Just 3.

i have 3 questions:

does sophie davis take essays into a lot of consideration?

is race/ethnicity also considered during admission process?

is Sophie Davis lenient with the requirements? (like letz say u dont meet the ACT score requirements)

does sd accept ap credits like ap eng and ap hist?

SD does accept certain AP credits if you score above certain marks (it's different for each exam). It really depends more on CCNY.

I don't know if things have changed, but for 2003 they accepted one of the AP Eng (i forgot what it was called... it was the one in which writing was more important). I don't know about AP history. The admissions office might know.. you could also try asking the Academic Records Office. Here's a directory: <a href="http://med.cuny.edu/Directorydept.htm%5B/url%5D">http://med.cuny.edu/Directorydept.htm</a></p>

I am really nervous about Sophie Davis because I heard of geniuses who couldn't get in!

I think my grades are pretty good (Math=800, Reading=640, Writing=730) and an ACT score of 30.

My GPA is very low (92.5), I have taken 2 APs (Physics=4, Psychology=4) and I am taking four more AP's this year.

I have no leadership positions, and I have been a member in DECA, Model Congress, Investment Club, Astronomy Club, Quiz Bowl, Spanish Club, Web Site Club.
I have also volunteered at a Cancer organization, a nursing home and a hospital, but only for a summer each.

I was born in America, lived in Queens for 10 years and now live in SYOSSET (can hurt me) and both my parents were born in Pakistan.

What are my chances for Sophie Davis!?

P.S: How are essays taken into account because I think I could've been more stronger on my essays (they are only about one page each), Thanks

NYY k9005, I have no bearing on your "chances," but here are some of my thoughts on what you have here.

Your reading score seems a bit low, but it might be ok with your writing score.

You might come across as lacking dedication--you spread yourself over many clubs with no leadership positions. Do you think of yourself differently?

The summer work seems okay, since it's good that you're getting different experiences. Did you write about them?

For the essays, content definitely matters more than length does.

i have a question about sophie davis admissions. is a sat score of about 2050 enough to get in? my school stats are very good. i go to bklyn tech and i am in top 10 there.

-sigh- Does anyone know when Sophie is going to send out interview notifications? I'm SO nervous about it, because I really want to go. I heard they notify around mid-late January...

yeah..i want to know also

actually i've heard from someone who applied last year that they gave interview notifications late feburary

yuck :( I don't think I can wait that long. I know a few years ago they did mid-jan, but maybe it's changed
