Sophie Davis Pgm.

did anyone apply to the towers?

For the people who have been accepted to Sophie Davis for Fall 2009. How do you register for the advanced mathematics placement test? Is this the same test as the Math 3 Compass test?

when do you apply for this program, end of junior year?
what the process for the applicatio please explain. thank you

What classes does sophie davis give AP credit for?

to twilightdreamxx-
what was your gpa and basicly your transcript if you dont mind.
i need a general idea of what type of ppl they are looking for.

94.5 gpa/2010 SAT score. Not strong statistics, but it met the requirements :)

However, I did conduct microbiological research with a professor for the past 2 years and Iā€™ve been working at a radiology office since the age of 13.

so wait then working at a medical office and researching is a positive. because i work at the pain clinic with three docters and i am with the high school research program at stony brook and brookheaven labratory.

also does sophie davis accept ap credits?

yes, they accept ap us, ap physics, but they dont take ap bio or ap chem as for the rest im not sureā€¦

just out of curiosity, anyone here consider the stony brook BSMD?
I got into sophie and this one and i opted for the latter. Iā€™m curious now since in hindsight sophie seems to be more well-known. at the time I heard they kick people out of sophie and itā€™s highly competitive going in.

Does anyone know how many kids get accepted into the program and how many actually apply?

the numbers vary from year to year, but their acceptance rate is 6-8%. this year, they only took 70 applicants, which is fewer than in previous years.

really!! well it better than other B.S/Md. programs, b/c others only accept at most 20-25 applicants.

Tell me about it sierraā€¦ I was looking at some colleges in NJ that was affiliated with UMDNJ for BS/MD, and they only took in about 2-4 kids per school. Iā€™m looking at some BS/DO programs as a backup plan, but I really do want to be an MD.

hey! wow this forum has died out lol!! well if any one stops by here, could you plz tell me if they accept ap credit. i heard from some, but all diffrerent answers. also can any one tell me if you have an advantage if you are asian and applying to the program? i heard some rumors about it soo just wondering

The programā€™s purpose is to increase the number of minorities in the medical profession. As we all know, Asians are no longer a minority. So I donā€™t think that itā€™ll help in terms of admittance. In fact, I believe that being Asian can be disadvantageous. Since the SD board has to fulfill a quota, only a certain number of Asians and whites, which comprise the greatest percentage of non-minority factions, can be admitted.

hey! umm for ap credit you can get credit for: physics, us history, psychology, definitely & depending on if u have ap language & ap lit, you may b able to get out of english --these r classes that are required by city college; you wont get credit for ap chem & ap bio; you can get elective credits for some classes such as calculus (3 credits)

Thatā€™s correct. Itā€™s better to not worry so much about getting out of taking electives at SD b/c youā€™ll have to take a certain number of electives regardless of how many AP credits you may have.

ok thanks. also could you tell me what they look for an applicant? which type of circular activities, courses, and other interest beside medicine. is it a plus if you are really good in math. also is it more tough to get into sd if you are from longisland?
