Sophie Davis Pgm.

You should read the thread. It is right on the first page.

Pretty sure they got rid of the DDS and PA programs due to a lack of interest.

The PA program is still there, the DDS program was cancelled however. There were only 2 DDS years and 8 students in total that are still in the program doing DDS. Since last year, it was no longer offered.

Just google Sophie Davis, it will find the website for the BS/MD program. The PA program is also there.

Hey guys, sorry to post in a old thread- just cant figure out how to create a new thread

So, I really want to go here but I am not sure I want to get in- I would reather pay the 100k at the end and cuny tution than pay liek 40k+ every year undergrad than med pay much more- also I with out a doubt want to go and doing this allows me to get in w/o the pressure of the MCATS and applying etc.

So my credentials are
Caucasian-Jewish-Junior at Syosset HS

SAT: thus far- only middle of junior year and have taken the SAT once- taking it again at the end of january- M:700,CR:700,GR:680- it was only the first time taking it though

SAT2-BIO-680,taking it again in June( US-pending and Physics/Chem pending)

APs- APHUG-4, AP PSYCH-4, APUSH- PENDING, AP MICRO ECO- PENDING, AP LANG- PENDING(senior year planning on taking AP BIO, AP US & GOVT, and AP CALCULUS

GPA-91( I know horrible- i did really bad freshman year- i was not a very motivated person despite taking all available honors those being Bio, English and AP World honors)
Lastly I am thus far planning on working in Cold Spring Harbor Lab which si teh #1 lab in the world so this will help a bit I think or Urochester Mini medical school- i think the former would look better but of less interest to me

Hey abcde. Your grades are solid, good SATs, gpa is decent. But remember grades arent everything. For Sophie, the interviews mean a lot, the way you show your interest in medicine, science, primary care, etc is also important.

What you need to consider is how confident about medicine. Perhaps get a shadowing experience or volunteer. Then write some good essays on your reason for choosing medicine, choosing sophie, etc.

Grades are not everything for Sophie, and you have solid grades to probably get an interview depending on your other extracurricular, essays, recs. Then interview they can tell if you are real or not.

By the way I am a current student.
Remember if you have the will, you will find a way to achieve your goals.

I mean real as in if your interests are and you have passion for medicine at this age.

I am a student with 90 gpa and 1900 sat scores.
My aunt previously went to sophie davis so she would get me an interview. But would they only determine my admission on what they see there or would they aknowledge my grades too because i wasnt picked according to my merit but because my aunt got me to the interview.
Also has anyone recieved interview notifications yet? Is it by email?

Has anyone heard back from the Sophie Davis Program? Past discussions from previous years got notifications around this time.

yes ! I got accepted!! With my school, the people who were accepted received emails and had the acceptance letter and contract sent home the same day. However, those who were not accepted did not receive an email and were only notified about their rejection via mail.

@ripped3 yesā€¦I got my acceptance letter via email on March 27th

I got in too. Quite horrible stats I would say.

@Bigbajo, What is the approx COA for Oos? For all 7 yrs.

Can someone pls take a guess on my chances of getting in.

SAT: plan to retake it in oct and get 2100+

Ok, so i know i lack in medical related ECā€™s and my stats arent too strong. I plan on getting strong recs and am a pretty good writer, so hopefully my essays turn out well. unfortunately, im not a minor :(( Iā€™m Asian-Indian, so i know itā€™ll be super competitive. Iā€™m a rising senior, so hopefully all goes well.

Thanks in advance!

Hello nerdyglasses! So, I am guessing you will be entering senior year of high school, correct? Well, my advice to you would be to get more medical-related ECā€™s this year. Sophie wants you to have good SATs/ACTs, but trust meā€¦that is not ALL they are looking for. The pool of applicants who are accepted are so diverse in their stats. Some have SATs as high as 2100ā€™s and some as low as 1600. But what unites the accepted applicants is that they all show a strong passion for medicine through their ECā€™s and of course through the 3 essays that Sophie requires.

Sophie gets thousands of applicants a year and only chooses around 75. Donā€™t be afraid to stand out! Volunteer at a hospital, shadow a doctor, get a position in a club. Show them that you truly want to dedicate your life helping people. And another thing, when it comes to the essays you really want to capture their attention. One of them will ask you to write about a health issue in your society. Yes, we know that obesity is a major issue, and so is Obama Care. But, how many other applicants do you think are going to be writing about those exact same topics? ALOT. Try to think outside of the box and choose a health issue thatā€™s uniqueā€¦one that you donā€™t think a lot of applicants will do their essays on. By doing that it will show Sophie that you took the time to really look into the health disparities affecting our society.

I see that you are the President of the Red Cross and an intern at Sloan Kettering? Thatā€™s really great. Take advantage of those positions. Organize events with the Red Crossā€¦try to shadow one of the physicians at Sloan Kettering if possibleā€¦get to know the patients. Get the feel of what it means to be in health care.

Sophie Davis is an amazing bs/md program, and probably one of the best out there. Unlike other programs, they donā€™t just look at your grades, but an overall picture of who you are. Sophie gets the point that SAT/ACTs are important, but will not determine your success as a physicians. Good luck in your application process! (Hope I helped)

Hi OrthoGoddess! Thank you so much for replying! You definitely did help. Yes, Iā€™m a rising senior, so I have very little time to do additional ECs. Do you suggest any specific ones where I can get more involved with the medical field and portray my passion to be a physician more? Also, are you a current student at SD? If you donā€™t mind, can I talk to you more about this through emailing or something? Again, I appreciate your time a bunch!

nvm

Costs are about 6k for 5 years and depending on matched school for the other 2, but since Sophie is becoming its own medical school, this may change. Currently though atleast the earlier time should stil be around 6k.

Has anyone gotten an interview yet? Iā€™m not sure when we get emailed for them

Hey Castigations, I havenā€™t gotten an interview yet either, but since your post was a little while go, have you heard anything yet?
