Okay, well I am now a freshman at Arizona State, and am looking to transfer to UVA for my sophmore year. My highschool stat's were not stellar (1040/1600SAT, 3.52UW GPA)
I am an Economics major, and was wondering, with good rec's and an essay, what type of GPA will I need? I am shooting for around 3.7 or better. Will that be high enough with my low HS stat's to give me a shot? Any other info would be great. Thanks

please…any help???

Let me start of with saying that UVA is a great school and they definitely have a good transfer admit rate for a higher level institution (about 37% transfer acceptance rate).

However, out of state transfers are much harder to get into only because it is a state school, but nevertheless I know several people who have done it. It will not hurt for you to apply.

You need to obviously build a strong case, but let me say this, do not expect to get in easily as a sophomore transfer applicant only because they have people who have more credits and a high GPA than you do. It will not be because you are not good enough or anything like that.

You need to get as close to a 4.0 as possible and simply worry about that. I am sure you will get good rec’s and build a case for yourself (really build a case like they don’t offer certain classes here or something like that).

I had a 4.0 and did not get accepted as a sophomore transfer simply because there were people who had a lot more credits than I did so really it only makes sense for UVA to accept them first.

Do your best, and worry about the application later. Do not stress out about the application, trust me when I say this, it is the easiest part. Getting good grades will ultimately be the deciding factor.
