I’m a sophomore. 203 on PSAT: Math: 79, CR: 57, W: 67 (without studying).
I really like science and math and am terrible at reading and writing, so I’m leaning towards the ACT.
Tips please? to improve reading?
If I studied this summer, is that enough time to take it in September? I’m aiming for top universities so yes, I will definitely be cramming this summer for the ACT.
You should always take both to find which one suites you better. Studying over the Summer should work, if you keep a consistent schedule to practice and take simulation exams.
There are plethora of tips just here in this sub-forum, along with tips to get a 12 on the essay (ACT).
I would take at least both. You won’t truly know how much you’ll prefer the ACT over the SAT, until you take both. You got a great PSAT score. ACT still has reading and writing, but I did find it easier than the SAT. If you studied this summer, then yes you would be fine to take it in September. However, most people take each test 2 or 3 times. Most colleges superscore the SAT. It’s good you’re taking initiative your sophomore year. I wish I did that. Best of luck! If you have any questions please let me know!
The ACT English sections are very easy, so I would highly recommend you take that since you are so strong in math.
If you can afford to take both, do so. If not, get a practice test of each, and take each one under testing conditions (timed and in a quiet place). See which one you do better on, and then take that one. I would definitely recommend finding the time to take your standardized tests in junior year. Wish I had done that.
Good luck! With those PSAT scores, I’m sure you’ll do really well.
