I'll be a sophomore next year and will be taking AP Biology, Precalculus Honors, English 2 Honors, and a few more courses. I self studied AP Psych this year, and recently took the test (pretty easy- hopefully a 4 or 5). My school only allows ONE AP for sophomores, and I'm interested in self studying three or four more. Math and English are my best subjects, but I'm still decent at Science and History, and will be able to manage Science/History AP's. Oh, and I play Varsity sports with after school practices and I have a few other after school clubs and hobbies. Which do you think I should self study? Thanks.

Comp gov
human geo
environmental science

all are quite interesting and rather easy

thanks, what about AP Statistics? I’ve already taken algebra 2 and will be in precalculus while taking it. do you think I could manage a 5, self studying ap stats?

I think AP Stat would be harder than Human Geography or Environmental Science; there’s a lot of memorization involved in terms of what statistical tests to use when and the vital statistics and rules that go with each. I’d go with Environmental Science, as it would complement AP Bio very nicely, or AP World History (but only if that’s your thing and you already have some background knowledge).

@FawkesGoldman
yeah i’ll probably self study environmental science; world history isnt really my thing, but if I put my mind to it, i could probably manage a 4-5.
What about Micro/Macro?

Hey, we are pretty much the same. I’ll be a soph next year and I’m also taking AP Bio, Honors British Literature, Honors Pre-calc, Honors Genetics, Honors World History, Gym, Honors Spanish III, and Honors Chem. This year, I self-studied AP Human Geo, AP Psych, AP Micro, and AP Macro. Next year, I’ll be self studying AP World History, AP European History, and AP Stat. I really love history and social sciences as you can tell. Do AP Stat. It is not too hard and it is very useful and interesting, and I don’t even like math LOL. If you like history, Art, World, and Euro are not too bad. Enviro Sci is ideal for people who like sciences. Stat is good for Math. All the social sciences are pretty good besides US History. Good Luck

cool, im taking honors chem too forgot to mention that.

i only did 1 self study this year, so next yr (sophomore) I’ll do AP stats, world, micro/macro, and maybe euro if I have the time. do micro/macro count as dif tests?

how do you think ap stats compares in difficulty to other maths (ie alg2, precal, calc…etc)?

btw, how do u think u did on psych? pretty easy, right? i think i got a 4

Thanks for the description of what you are doing right now:P

If I were you, I would self study, Environmental Science, English Language and Composition, and Macro/Microeconomics or Government.

AP Environmental Science will overlap with AP Biology quite a bit, it will also require basic chemistry knowledge which you are getting right now, so you should be just fine self-studying for that

AP English Language and Compostion is very similar to the SAT Critical Reading section, in fact it is arguably easier… But if you like English, there are only a few terms you will need to learn on top of what you already know

AP Microeconomics/AP Macroeconomics are just basic economics courses. If you like math and are a somewhat concrete sequential thinker, these shouldn’t be too hard either

Finally, AP US Government and Politics is another pretty easy self-study. If you kinda know your current events, you will have already heard a majority of the terms used on the Government test.

I think I got a 5. Macro and Micro does take some time. I read 5 steps 2 months before the exam and the next time i touched econ was the weekend before LOL. I didn’t get any sleep this week. I think I definetly got a 5 on Macro and Psych. Psych was especially easy, first time I ever touched the book was 3 days before LOL. Micro and Human Geo I hopefully got a 5, but I’m not too sure. I’m not realyy familiar with Stat. I took a Science Research class this year so that covered some of it, and some basic stuff was in micro, macro, psych, and human geo. But, I hear from some people that it is really hard, but most say it is a joke and it is basically How to use a Calculator 101. It will probably be easy. I also take a very statistically analytical perspective on issues, and I am a big fan of sports and econ, in which stats increase your understanding. Also, I will be conducting research next summer so knowing Stats will be great.

I’d go with AP Euro OR AP World, but not try both.

macro and micro are easy self studies, and they can be really interesting too. Micro is a bit harder than macro. I didnt start macro until 2 days before the exam, and I felt like the exam was a joke, I definitely got a 5, but micro I had started months before, and I think I probably got a 4… I would definitely recommend either or both economics as self studies though

I’ve taken courses (a community college class in Macro and half of a terrible, terrible Apex Online course in Micro that I dropped because of the volume of busywork; I self-studied the other half) in economics, and in both cases found the concepts to be generally fairly easy. The most difficult and most significant part of both classes (though it seems more central in Micro) is memorizing the pages of graphs. If you want to succeed at free-response, that’s what you’ve got to do.

Overall, economics is the least interesting subject I’ve ever studied, and that includes all the years I wasted in health class, learning about how doing recreational drugs will make you impotent for life. I hated the classes and hated the tests, and probably did poorly on the AP Micro exam this year because I simply did not care enough to study or even try. In terms of difficulty, Human Geography is lower than both economics classes and significantly more interesting and intuitive.

The decision to self-study AP World isn’t one you should make lightly. That’s a course that’ll take more time to pick up, by virtue of the sheer volume of information you have to absorb. It’s at least somewhat interesting; in comparison to AP Memorize these Graphs (AP Micro), it’s the most scintillating things I’ve ever read. Again, though, I didn’t self-study.
