sophomore chances (don't make fun...:-P )

I am only a sophomore, but I am starting to think about colleges early. I want to make sure that I don't start out with too broad a list and without having anything to really aim for. So if you guys could help me out and let me know, just based on my stats so far, what my chances are at some colleges, i would really appreciate it.

white female
High School: very competitive Jesuit College Preparatory
Freshman GPA: 2.8 (a lot of personal problems, but I don't know how much freshman grades count, and if I will be able to explain the low GPA)
Sophomore GPA: 3.6uw/3.8w (I know colleges like upward trends...)

PLAN (pre-SAT/ACT test that predicts SAT, ACT scores): predicted 1500+

ECs:
- Co-founder/President of CauseWeCare (a large youth volunteer/service group in San Francisco; work with many organizations and political leaders in SF and California)
- member of the San Francisco Youth Commission (selective group of 17 young people who advise the Board of Supervisors and Mayor on youth-related issues in the city)
- Co-founder/President of a political discussion group at my school
- writer for my school newspaper
- 300+ service hours (aiming for 1000+ by senior year)
- Co-founder/President of an underclassmen JSA (seniors took over everything, and underclassmen didnt get a chance to do anything)
- soccer coach for 2 years, ref for 1 year, player all my life

Thats everything so far. I will continue to do all of this and more. I suppose sophomore year is kind of early but better safe than sorry! Thanks everyone!

college wish list: NYU, Boston U., Columbia, Georgetown, Princeton, Yale, Stanford, UC Irvine, UPenn, Sarah Lawrence

UCI...are you a CA resident, and why UCI?

mm...what are your expected SATII scores?
any AP's planned?

EC's are looking good. Weighted GPA isnt far from unweighted, which probably means you arent challenging yourself with honors and AP classes. Dont sweat it since you're a sophomore, but if you want to make yourself shine on your transcript, take 2-4 AP's or Honors next year to boost your gpa and to show colleges that you're trying to challenge yourself.

What major do you want to apply for? If you are leaning towards math/science, try going for AP Chem/Bio/Physics, and AP Calc (if its possible), and study your ass off for those AP tests. If you are leaning towards English/History, then take AP lit and AP US History.

Just show them that you're challenging yourself. Oh, and dont worry about Freshmen GPA....colleges dont look too much at them (i hope)

I'd work on getting your gpa up. Try to keep it at or above a 3.8 unweighted and take the hardest courseload possible. Keep up with your EC's and make good contacts with your teachers so you can get good recs. Your schools are by no means easy to get into, and some of them are downright impossible to predict. But BU should be a lock if you keep it up, and you'll stand great chances at NYU, UC Irvine(think so), and Sarah Lawrence (guessing). But with the rest, you'll need all the luck possible.

That's good. Schools want to see comittment and determination.

Political discussion group, JSA, mayoral advisor, newspaper, Georgetown...and you ask if he's going into math/science? I think you might need a little sleep buddy. Well so do I, so I'm gonna go to bed now...right after a few more...posts...I mean hours of CC.

I am only taking one honors class this year (english honors), I plan on taking AP English, AP American History, AP Government. I want to go into Political Science, Human Services, or Law. NYU, as of now, is my top choice. My other top choices are Columbia, Sarah Lawrence, Georgetown, and Stanford.

Im also thinking UCBerkeley. Any more suggestions for schools or advice on how to get in to the ones listed? I know a sophomore is low in the list on CC (next to all the..."OMG im screwed! posts), but anything would be appreciated! Thanks!

What is a 3.8 on a percentage scale?

i think its around a 95...im not completely sure how that all works...
