Sophomore Course Selection

Hey, I’m going to a new school for Sophomore year and the rest of high school(local public school). I am taking AP Calc, possibly AP Computer science and/or AP Physics if it isn’t full either. I am basically purely interested in science but know I should take challenging classes outside of STEM as well, all my other classes are honors like honors chem and english but I want to know if it’ll be worth it if I take AP Euro aswell instead of honors US History? If it matters my top pick for colleges are Cal Tech, MIT, Berkeley, Carnegie Melon

I’m an AP World student but AP Euro is pretty easy compared to AP World and APUSH from what I’ve heard. Taking the most challenging classes definitely looks good but if you absolutely hate Europe go with Honors US.

If you are looking for a challenging workload, ask others about AP Euro. At my school it is extremely difficult but it could be easy at yours. I’d recommend you take US history mainly because I think all Americans should have at least the basics of the US. Also consider how many APs have you taken so far and how are you doing in them so far.

Draft Schedule:
AP Calc
AP Physics
Honors Chem
Honors US History
AP Computer Science (I Hope you get this class)
Honors English
Plus more depending on how many classes you have in a day

Consider your lab quality for AP Physics.
Honors Chem is fine.
Honors US History is good.
AP CS has a great curriculum.
Honors English is good.
AP Calc is deficiently designed. I would take dual enrollment online class if possible. But it is also better to take it than to go a year without math.

I would not consider @Voxle1’s advice as gospel. At most schools, AP Euro is one of the hardest or the hardest social studies course. At my school, it is the most difficult AP social studies course. That being said, it is doable. If you feel your rigor is pushing it right now, then I would recommend U.S. for you.
