Is it reasonable to request a single room for her sophomore year? (She lives on campus now and was fairly high on the housing list last year, as we got her application and deposit in by end of November/early December-ish.)

She is considering San Jac, Moore-Hill, Prather or Roberts. Which of these might have LESS freshmen and mostly sophomores? And, are any of these more likely to offer singles?

Singles are super expensive, but if money is not a problem, then definitely go for it, because she’s probably likely to get one with her place on the list. I live in San Jac right now and it’s pretty much ALL freshmen. I’ve only met about 2 sophomores and most of the sophomores who live in on-campus dorms are transfer students… pretty much all sophomores do not live on campus.

There are more upperclassmen living in the dorms than you may think. The majority of them, however, reside in Brackenridge, Prather, Roberts, and Moore-Hill. These are smaller dorms that house more upperclassmen than any other dorm on campus. Jester East or West also have upperclassmen living there, but I don’t advise it since that’s where the majority of freshman on campus live haha.

I’m not sure if any of those dorms are more likely to offer singles, but you can best bet that your best choices for upperclassmen dorms are those. Hope this helps!

I had heard that there were lots of sophomores in San Jac and Duren. Why would a sophomore choose to live in one of the older dorms, if they could get into San Jac or Duren? Is it the price, maybe?

Moore-Hill has a lot of freshman as well as upperclassmen. From what several upperclassmen have told me, they’ve lived at MHD before and even requested the same room. Several people have also lived in other dorms before including San Jac, but prefer MHD more because it’s very social.
