Sophomore here. I have a question about the use of calculators at Penn.

Hey y’all. So I have a very particular question about the use of calculators at Penn. For reference I’m a sophomore studying Econ in the College.

I bought a TI-NSpire CX graphing calculator before I came to Penn. I figured it would be useful and thought I would need it throughout my time here. But so far, I haven’t had used it a single time. I’ve taken Math 104/114 + Econ 01/02 and none of these classes have required me to use a calculator. I think Math 104/114 actually forbid the use of graphing calculators in class and exams.

My question is essentially this: Will I ever need to use a graphing calculator for the rest of my time here? As in, are there any courses that require you to have a graphing calculator? I’m sure there are professors who would recommend having a graphing calculator as a resource, but I’m specifically asking if I need to have it. I realize this question is specific to myself, but I was hoping to get some insight from Econ majors here (students from other majors are free to chime in too) about whether your class schedules during your time at Penn ever required the use of a graphing calculator. I realize most Econ classes are math-based, but I seriously doubt I’ll need to hold on to my TI-NSpire CX. If I find out that it’s unnecessary, I will probably just sell it since I spent a good amount of money on it in the first place.

Anyways, any insight into my inquiry would be much appreciated. Thanks!
