sophomore hoping for northwestern...on the right track?

Current high school sophomore
Gender: Female
Race: Biracial, White and African American

Class Rank: our school doesn't rank, only gives a graph of weighted GPA ranges. I know I'm between the top 20-3%, probably in the top 10%
weighted GPA: 4.25
unweighted: 3.754
PSAT: 213 (grade 10, so I'm hoping to pull it up a lot)

Sophomore year: honors in english 2, US History, french 3, and algebra 2, accelerated biology, plus chorus, current events, gym, and peer tutoring
Junior schedule: APUSH, honors english 3, honors french 4, honors trig, accelerated chem, plus chorus, intro to tech theater, advanced photography and peer tutoring.
Probably Senior Schedule: AP English, AP Calc AB, AP Enviro, AP Euro or AP Psych, accelerated french 5, plus chorus, advanced photo, peer tutoring, poly sci, public speaking or senior seminar or sociology

honors
-applying for community service award next year. will qualify for at least the lowest one offered, could get a national award depending on how much volunteer work I can find over the summer
-national french honors society

ECs
-member of our GSA since freshman year, in line to be officer next year
-member of Amnesty International since this year, may be an officer next year
-member of Democrat's club since it started a few weeks ago, should hopefully be in line for a leadership position as one of the first members
-junior adviser for our town's Cultural Council
-volunteer with a patient advocacy service, hoping to do a lot of volunteer work with them over the summer
-member of our theater program: act in about 1 play a year though it depends, also worked on sound crew for the musical this year and plan on continuing it after taking intro to tech next year)

I'm also thinking of next year starting a chapter of the Youth International Party (Yippies): basically a liberal political organization based on the work of Abbie Hoffman when he led the party in the late 60s and early 70s. planning on staging peaceful war protests and leading a campaign promoting meat free mondays to get people to see how easy being a vegetarian is, plus any ideas that our members come up with. this depends on if we can find a faculty adviser or not, if the idea is relatively popular, and if people think that it's a good idea (will it look bad to colleges, considering that members of the party when it was still around got arrested frequently and promoted drug use, though if i start a chapter we'll be working against drug use? should I start a club based on these values and call it something else to eliminate negative associations?)

Can you chance me for/tell me if I'm on the right track for:
-Northwestern (possible hook: great-granddaughter of a former faculty member)
-NYU/ NYU Abu Dhabi
-Mcgill
-USC
-George Washington University

Thank you! If you post a link I'll try to chance back

Hi!
with great test scores, I’d say:

Northwestern - match
NYU- match
NYU Abu Dhabi - As nobody exactly knows what’s the acceptance rate there since it’s their first year, I won’t be able to chance you on this one, although I’ve heard that this year they had 8000 applicants competing for 100 spots (less than 2% acceptance rate) which means it is really hard to get in.
McGill - In
USC - In
George Washington U - match

and good luck!! :)

You have a good chance. I would say that you could try and improve your percentage as well as both of your GPA’s.

Keep your grades up, and get your scores to 2200+. Your biggest EC problem is a lack of focus. Honestly, your club memberships mean fairly little. Leadership is good, but you should have a sort of focus to your ECs rather than a smattering of disparate activities. I’d recommend cutting all but those most important to you and pursuing one thing to a more impressive level (ie state-wide, versus a school-wide leadership position).

That being said, you have race on your side, so I’d say Northwestern is a match if you can boost your stats a tad.

thanks for all the feedback so far!

@AdamJones- thanks, i didn’t realize it was so new, explains why there isn’t a lot of admissions info yet. hopefully there should be by the time i apply

@glassesarechic- good point, i’m planning on sticking with Amnesty, Democrats and the GSA sine they’re politically oriented, but i think i’ll cut back on my involvement in theater to pursue founding my own club for political protest (i’m planning on doing things like advocating meat-free mondays, hosting food drives, protesting the selective service system, raising awareness about the injustices in uganda, etc)

could anyone let me know what they think of starting a yippie club- for the far left/ those who wish they were born a few decades earlier.
i don’t know if it’s really going to be that extremist or if we can get an adviser, but i’m hoping to get some stuff done that’s slightly controversial to get more attention on things that we want to change (like the continued existence of the SSS)
i have a feeling that leading something really left-wing could help me get into some of my other top choices like swarthmore (one that i’ve started considering since starting this thread), but what do you think other universities would think of it?

Your stats are so far, so good. Just keep it up next year and delve into your passions - aka, don’t waste your time doing something you don’t wanna do! (:

Show Northwestern you’re really interested by looking into their summer programs for high school students (if any) and marking them as your first choice (when you apply for National Merit awards, which I wouldn’t be surprised if you got). Visit them. Talk to the students there.

In the mean time, look into other schools! You have a lot of time, feel blessed and work it to your advantage (:

Good luck the rest of this school year and JUNIOR YEAR! You’ll be great, I’m sure.
