Sophomore interested in Materials Engineering

Hello, new to CC. My D is interested in materials engineering. We are local in OC. Not sure how to private message but would really appreciate any advice for prepping for applying. My D is a sophomore. TY.

What specific information are you looking for in regards to Materials Engineering and UCLA admission?

First and foremost, any UC applicant should take advantage of the rigorous HS courses at their HS and to exceed the UC minimum requirements.

UC’s consider 13 ares of criteria when they review applications with GPA, PIQ’s, HS course rigor as being Very important.

UC’s only consider a-g course grades for the summer prior to 10th through the summer prior to 12th in their GPA calculation: GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub
The UC’s look at all 3 UC GPA’s: Unweighted, Capped weighted and Fully weighted.
Extra Honors points are given to UC approved HS Honors courses (CA resident only) , AP/IB courses and UC transferable DE/CC courses.

  • For the College of Letters and Science, the applicant’s major is not considered during the review process.
  • The Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science admits students by declared major, with more emphasis on science and math programs.
  • The School of Nursing also places more emphasis on science and math programs and requires the submission of an additional supplemental application.
  • The School of the Arts and Architecture; Herb Alpert School of Music; and the School of Theater, Film and Television admit students by declared major (within the school), and put more emphasis on special talents through a review of portfolios and/or auditions, which are the most significant admission factors for these schools.
