So I did well in my freshman year of high school, but during sophomore year my grades dropped a bit, as well as my gpa. If I do well my junior year, will colleges take that into more consideration? Or does my slacking off during sophomore year really count against me?

Junior year GPA would be most important for college application. It should show the grades with higher rigor curriculum and you may demonstrate an upward trend with it. Sophomore grades will affect your overall GPA though.

After a drop in your GPA from freshman year to sophomore year, you really want to do well in junior year taking rigorous courses. It will help you a lot since they want to see an upward trend in your grades. Slacking off your sophomore year shouldn’t kill you, but it’s not the best obviously.
