Hi Guys,

Does anyone know how the housing experience is for sophomore transfer who live in university housing in college town (Cascadilla hall, sheldon court). I don't know anyone in west campus or essentially anyone at Cornell, so I'm worried, that most upperclassmen don't want to hang out with sophomores in sheldon court/cascadilla??

Also, is it easy for kids in sheldon to walk to west campus and have dinner? or should I get the college town debit plan?

Any advice would be helpful. Cornell housing is terrible. I was so angry when I found out I didn't get west campus. I have no idea how life in sheldon is going to turn out this year lol

It’s very easy to go to West Campus and get dinner. Also, you’ll have a bus pass if you can’t be bothered to walk down (or back up).

And don’t worry heavily about knowing people. You’ll get acclimated to the school during orientation week and hopefully meet other students. Cornell has thousands of students, so there are bound to be people you’ll get along with.

also the dorms in collegetown are for sophomores, juniors, and seniors, so there is no reason to suspect that you will be particularly out of place based on your class year.

I think West campus is only home for a little more than half of sophomores anyway.

The highest percentage of transfers are in the Collegetown halls (Cascadilla and Sheldon Court) Along with returning upperclassmen. You are probably more likely to meet people there since there will be more people in the same situation as you and the rooms are not suites so people come out more. I am not sure why you are upset, the Collegetown neighborhood is where all the off campus fun is and is closer to most classes than West campus. Only major down side is there are no dining halls in the buildings, but you can cook in the kitchens and save some money.

People who live in sheldon court/cascadilla are on a black list and no one hangs out with them. You will be fine…West campus is close enough. The only downside is not having the dining halls in your building. Don’t worry too much about becoming bffs with yours neighbors because that only happens in freshmen dorms. Join clubs/organizations because that’s the best way to make friends.

OP you should be happy that you’re living in a dorm in ctown and not on West Campus. Yes, the west campus house system is more new and has the dining halls inside, but West campus can feel very anti-social. You’re more likely to meet friendlier people in sheldon than on west, but regardless most of the good friends you make will come from the time you spend outside your dorm.
