Ok, this isn't some "Am I doing good so far" thread or anything.

I posted this in the test forum, but it wasn't really answered. As a sophomore this year I took 3 AP tests:

Bio- 5
USH- 5
Envi- 3

I'm really happy about my scores, except the 3 is bothering me >>; <<;

On the harvard website I read that they do not recognize the Environmental test as a course credit, so would this mean the 3 wouldn't be looked at as unfavorably?

I still have more AP tests I have to worry about..(rising Junior) and I don't know how I would do on those, but I'm probably still going to be seeing more 3's in the future. Do 3's hurt admission chances a lot?

Side question, I also took 3 SATII's :

Math II: 800
BIO/M: 740
USH: 680

Again, I'm really surprised I did ok, but I recently heard colleges in the Ivy caliber like all 700+'s? I'm still going to be taking more SATII's for subjects I learn in my junior year, but would anyone recommend a USH retake?

Sorry for the long post, just another ivy hopeful..yet another brick in the wall.

retake USH if you want to, it would increase your chances by having 700+ on all, but make sure your ECs are really good. As for the Environ., I have no idea.

Worry about ECs, not tests. If you've taken 3 APs as a sophomore you're already doing fine. The USH score is low, especially considering your 5... but since you got a 5 on the exam I doubt Harvard will care about the low SAT II. Same with the Bio (although that score's not "low" per se.) If you take another AP science, take the SATII for that this year, but otherwise, don't worry about it, you have enough. And you even have an 800 on IIc, just like 10% of people who take it! >>;

Retakes are not looked down upon per se. You shouldn't take the SATs more than three times (though even three is sort of too much). You shouldn't take subject tests more than twice. If you think you'll do a lot better a second time by all means take it.

Your USH score is probably fine.

I do not think 3s hurt admission chances a lot. You're bound to get them. It's sort of like a neutral factor. I mean, there are kids with 8 APs+ and 4+ scores on all of them that get rejected.

I asked an admissions officer about this last year.

He said that taking the SAT Is/IIs more than three times worries them, and rightly so; why spend so much time taking a standardized test when you could actually be doing something productive?

If you score 700+ on any section, retaking is a waste of money. If you're that eager to spend money, find a charity. =)
