Sophomore Rushing Sorority

I considered rushing freshman year, but I thought it would be too much commitment first semester. Now, I kinda regret not rushing. I have been to http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-michigan-ann-arbor/1295149-fraternity-sorority-rush-rankings.html?highlight=greek and it has been very helpful, but I want more information about sophomores rushing. Pros and cons of rushing as a sophomore? And any advice you may have?

I have heard that some sororites(top tier mainly) won't give bids to sophomore girls. Is this true? And if so, which ones specifically? I just don't want to preference a sorority that I have no hope in getting into. And is it possible to not get a bid at all?

Being a sophomore, I have heard all the reputations and ranks. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but I will try to have an open mind. I appreciate any comments you may have, no hate please :)

Recently asked this question to a friend at the Panhellenic Office and here is the “off the record” reply:

Some sororities at Michigan still take sophomores but many do not. Generally, the percentage of sophomores who end up joining is the same as the percentage of sophomores going through Recruitment. All groups will say they are open to sophomores, but their final pledge list doesn’t necessarily reflect that. Offhand I can tell you that Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Phi, Chi O, Tri-Delt, Theta, and SDT probably won’t take sophomores. There are still lots of great sororities that will take sophomores.

I knew a sophomore that pledged AXO last year and I’m sure SDT takes them. Most will and you will get a bid somewhere but it’s not as easy as going through as a freshman.

Thanks for the help!!
