I am a sophomore contemplating whether or not I should take the SAT this year.
I am taking both Algebra II and Geometry currently at the same time and can't decide if it would be a good idea to take the SAT since both of these subjects are fresh in my mind or wait until next year when I will be in precalc, and may forget some of the algebra and geometry concepts..

I only scored around a 165 on the PSAT, so would it be a bad idea to take it early?? What if I put forth a good study schedule in prep for the June SAT? I am already starting to practice vocabulary. Since I am strong in both of these math subjects, would now be the right time to take it while I still remember everything??

Although you do use Algebra and Geometry skills in higher math classes, you can easily forget many of the nuances. They are easily studied but this can also depend on how much you really want to prepare. That said, as a sophomore you should be ok. I had a bit of a problem my first time taking the SAT, but I took Geometry in 8th grade and Algebra II in 9th, so I had a good amount of time in which to forget vast areas of the subjects.

I took my first real SAT as a sophomore, not counting CTY’s in 7th and 8th, and I got a 2130. However, I did prep for it significantly. If you think you can prepare for it, and that you get decent scores, with great Math, then go for it. Base your decision off your practice tests.
