So I am a freshman and I’m scheduling around this time of the month and I plan on taking:
~Pre-IB Span3
~Pre-IB Chem
~Pre-IB Math Analysis (Pre-Calc)
~Pre-IB Eng2 (just a fancy name for AP Lang)
~Pre-IB/AP European History
~AP Physics
~AP Biology
~Economics and Personal Finance (required)
in class. I also want to take
~AP Psychology
~AP Economics (Macro and Micro combined)
as online courses. Any advice for me? Much appreciation
I also plan on doing academic clubs and tennis (which is a spring sport) as well. I know I will be very busy so any advice is much appreciated
3 science classes concurrently is overkill.
8 classes a year is plenty - no need to take online courses. If your doing them to help with college admissions, colleges would like to have you have time for ec’s not just academics.
Colleges don’t care about online courses unless you can’t take a satisfactory curriculum at your school.
3 sciences classes is not only overkill but, worse, likely pure hubris (and interpreted as such when you inevitably tumble) since one would be pre-IB and two would be junior/senior APs while you’d be a sophomore!
Colleges expect you to take biology, chemistry, and physics (+ 1 more science) over the 4 years of high school. If you took Pre IB biology and take Physics and Chemistry as a sophomore, you’re actually advanced compared to the norm, and can take whatever IB science you wish later on.
If PreIB Lang is another name for AP Lang, make sure to register for the test (since pre IB lang dont carry any potential credit).
Perhaps take an art xlzss (performance, history, …) instead of AP biology since some colleges want to see that (and some, such as in California, require it).
Yea I was thinking of dropping Bio, because I heard the teacher was bad. I’ll probably take it senior year or something.
Random question: Is AP Environmental Science a “real” science?
At my D’s school, this would be 9.2 credits, which wouldn’t fit in an 8 period day. Are your science courses not lab courses?
Online AP courses don’t count for much in college admissions.
Being “very busy” tends to lead to deteriorating grades. 6 A’s and 4 B’s and “I was too busy” is not as good as 8 A’s.
Yes. But it is less rigorous (and colleges all know this) that AP Bio, AP Chem, and AP Physics C. And it should not replace a bio/chem/physics class in the 4 year schedule.
