Sophomore transfer chances?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

OOS sophomore transfer(NY)
3.8 hs GPA unweighted
Top 5% of class
SAT:2000 ACT:32
8 APs
National AP Scholar
Honor Society VP
Various other clubs, sports

Northeastern U Honors College
Presidents Scholar
3.26 GPA
18 first semester credits

Sob story I'd prefer to keep unused...missed last 2 months of classes due to hospitalization, took my finals cold in mid January because I didn't want to waste credits, turning my 4.0 midterm GPA into current GPA. Currently at local college to work with what I've got until I'm healthy.

Would it be best to hold off an application until I am transferring into junior year? This is a dream school i had to put off due to family issues, meaning distance would have been a problem. Again any inputs would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

You should definitely apply. High school stats are considered for sophomore transfers much more than junior transfers, and you’ve got good stats. And you will likely have to tell them the circumstances behind your GPA. I think that 3.2 with 15+ hours does make the dean’s list here, but I think that the average college GPA for transfers is around 3.4 or maybe a little higher (and probably higher for sophomore transfers). It definitely is harder to transfer as a sophomore, but hopefully they will consider your extenuating circumstances. If you can have a professor or two back you up on that with recommendation letters, I’m sure it will help a lot. Good luck!
