Hi all,
I’m transferring as a sophomore and will major in linguistics. Currently my top two are UNC-Chapel Hill and UVA. Would love some recommendations for additional schools that you think I have a decent shot of getting into. East Coast-ish preferred, strong financial aid mandatory.
My situation:
- 3.45 CC GPA (Pennsylvania), will increase to at least 3.6 after this fall semester assuming I do well. I had an academic restart, if it makes a difference - did terribly in CC in 2009-2010, took six years off and came back last year.
- Awful HS GPA, but I graduated in 2008.
- 2160 SATs (same test, CR 750/M 680/W 730, this was in 2007 though)
- Killer essays (it’s what I excel at) and great recommendations (“best writer in years” from an English professor)
- Currently work as a caseworker for tenants in low income housing.
My HS and early CC problems were due to being in an abusive home environment which left me unable to focus on classwork. It would definitely be stressed in my essays, particularly the journey and transformations that I’ve made in my life.
Can anyone recommend additional schools that I should consider? Is this realistic?
