Sophomore Transfer student?

I just finished my Freshman year at Baruch College with a 3.9 GPA,
and thinking of applying to Cornell for Spring Transfer, which the deadline is on Oct 1 to Nov. 1. What are some advantages of applying as spring transfer students? it seems like people don't apply during spring term as much as fall term do... also am i still considered as sophomore trasnfer student? when do acceptees of spring term start in college?

I applied for Spring Transfer last year. They say that you have a better chance of getting accepted during Spring because less people apply. I don’t know if that’s fact or myth. If you apply for spring transfer during your sophomore year, you are considered a sophomore applicant. One of the advantages of Spring transfer is that you get to attend Cornell 1 semester earlier. One of the disadvantages is that after you are accepted, you have to do a lot of paperwork in a very limited period of time(esp. if you are international). I wasn’t able to get all of the paperwork done on time, so I had to defer enrolment to fall. Spring acceptees have to be at Cornell by Jan 20(for orientation and such); classes start on Jan 25.

My high school record sucks… literally…

i maintained a 3.9 / 4.2 GPA up until starting of junior year, and got a F on AP Calc which brought down my gpa to … like 3.3 or 4 cuz I was busy n had to work and support my family. so do you think they will weigh high school record as much as freshman transfer student applying during march? i herd cornell weigh highschool record a lot on freshman transfers applying during march. so i shouldn’t really worry much about that as much as freshman transfers do…?

what school/major are you thinking of applying to?

I think that it would be better to apply during your first semester of sophomore year. That way, you can prove that you are consistently capable of handling rigorous college work material. And as you said, after freshman year, your HS record become less important. For example, you said that you got an F in AP calc. If you ace college calc, then you can prove that the F you got was a fluke. You can also discuss how your family’s situation affected your high school grades in your application essays.
