I never thought I would do this but I am a sophomore transfer from Fordham University, and I fell in love with BU on visits there early this year, and I have really not had a great time at Fordham. I am from NYC and believe that I really do need a change of scenery, and I think BU is the place for me. That being said I’m pretty nervous about my credentials and was wondering if anyone could let me know my chances.

HS:
GPA 3.6 unweighted
Rank: N/A
SAT’s: V670 M610 W650
EC’s: Varsity Baseball all four years, senior captain, all boro sophomore year. (Baseball was a year round thing at my school didn’t have time for much else)
Community service, and summer work experience
One AP class no AP tests (High school only offered a couple of AP’s)

College: Fordham University
GPA 1st semester: 3.6
My EC’s in college are lacking just doing intramural softball, I’m really nervous that this will negatively impact me.

But if anyone can help me out and give some guidance or insight that would be great.

Dear screwdrew1 : On board scores, you are second quartile in critical reading and writing and third quartile on mathematics. Transfer students into the bottom 50% of the board profiles tend to have a very hard time at any university. You will want to stress the reasons why you want to change schools and specifically why BU. Our suggestion would be to call an admission’s counselor for your area and discuss the situation in person as soon as possible.

Scottj… it isn’t all about the SAT scores and I know plenty of people who have taken those tests and do terrible, but are still able to succeed at any university.

I also forgot to mention I took two SAT subject tests: Math I 570 US History 640

Anson: I’m from NYC, Queens more specifically and at first I felt that wouldn’t be too much of a problem as I am living on campus but I have come to realize that for me at least I’m not getting that ‘college experience’ because I’m so close to home. Also the social setting really isn’t for me. The typical social activity here is going to the three or so bars around campus and getting drunk. That’s fine if that’s what you like but it’s not me. And lastly the diversity on campus is really lacking. Coming from the city I went to school with people of all different backgrounds, Fordham essentially has the same type of students from the same places. Academics are really good though. It’s about knowing who you are and what you like to do.

Dear cloutclout123 : Regarding your response posting …

Scottj… it isn’t all about the SAT scores and I know plenty of people who have taken those tests and do terrible, but are still able to succeed at any university.

… you are correct that it isn’t all about the SAT scores, but we are talking about a transfer application for a limited number of slots. We are not talking about being able to succeed at any university, but this particular university. History shows that transfer applicants that are not top quartile for their target schools experience significantly lower acceptance parameters than their peer group in the top quartile. While you might like to challenge that set of parameters, they are the facts at the admissions office.

As for screwdrew1’s application - apply and we wish you good luck.
